Berkshire Lookup Requests / mary schofield, matron at King Edward VII Hospital
« on: Monday 12 July 10 16:19 BST (UK)  »
hi, trying to find out what happened to my g-grandmother mary schofield - she had my grandmother adopted and returned to nursing.  A distant family member has given me a newspaper photo of her in uniform with the caption that she was joining King Edward VII hospital windsor as a matron.  Unfortunately the photo was clipped out and the relative doesn't know what paper it was in or the date.  Mary was born in 1875 and is middleaged (50ish?) in the picture. The Reading records office is meant to hold staff records for this hospital and I would be eternally grateful if anyone is doing their own search of the records, if they let me know whether there is any info on her.

Thanks for the response.  I may give it a go and order the death certificate as after going through all the deaths of Mary Schofield (!), there are no perfect matches which could of course mean she married in old age or emigrated but family rumours do suggest that she was still called Schofield in 1930.  The age isn't quite right as Mary Annora was born in 1875, but could have been a mistake by the person registering the death but she does seem to have spent some time in the Bath area.

Mary Annora Schofield was my great grandmother.  In 1915 she is in Bath but then I lose sight of her in the records.  The family story is that by the late 1920s she was employed as a nurse in Cheltenham as we think that my grandmother, who had been given up for adoption, went there in 1930 to see her.

If anyone has a Post Office or Kellys directory for Cheltenham for the late 1920s or early 30s, or even access to electoral registers around that time,  I would be really grateful if they could see if they could find her.

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / baptism at Cotheridge 1811/1812/1813

My ancestor Eliza Green was born in Cotheridge most probably in 1812.  I think her parents may have been Sarah and John (records after 1813 are on the Genealogist and show a Henry Green born later who may have been a brother) but need to find her baptism record to confirm.  If any one is going to Worcs Records Office, I beleive they have the microfiche for the church, St Leonards, at Cotheridge and would be most grateful if you could have quick look (and for any siblings if poss).

Thanks - best I get down to the NA to find out when he joined up and when he was discharged(census shows him as a labourer in 1861 and by 1881, he's back doing manual work in Bury again).

Fantastic piece of info - George married in Salford on 4 Jun 1871 which I now suspect is due to his imminent posting to Aldershot (in my experience, many military marriages are precipitated by a move!).

On a separate note, any idea when 100th Reg of Foot moved to the barracks at Elton in Bury and where they were beforehand?

Looking forward to seeing the tunic photo.
