Rutland Lookup Requests / Look-up request for parish registers Cottesmore
« on: Saturday 21 August 10 18:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have already had some fantastic help with finding out information on Michael Berridge, from Exton (Born 1797) and now am trying to trace his mother - Sarah Berridge.

It looks like she had Michael Berridge, as a single mother at 18years old and then I can find no other trace of her in the Exton registers. Michael Berridge then turns up on the 1841 census, in Cottesmore and the family remained there until the 1900s. So - I am wondering whether Sarah and Michael moved together to Cottesmore at some point? Would someone be able to look up marriages for me (in COttesmore) and see if a Sarah Berridge (born possibly around 1769 ) marrys there or dies there? This is just a massive "guess" and I could be completely wrong.

Thanks

Ian

Brilliant  - thanks for that. No sign of Sarah after that birth, so I can only guess where she disappeared to? Michael Berridge spends a lot of time in COttesmore (1841 onwards) , so possibly she moved there? Who knows!

Linda, that is absolutely brilliant. Many thanks, have been trying to get back beyond Michael Berridge and now I find loads more Berridges! Would you have marriage records for the Berridges in Exton as well (really pushing it now!! :) ) as it would be interesting to see if Sarah married after she had Michael.

Many thanks again for your efforts.

Thanks for that Laura - that's about right - he says on the census that he was born "around" 1801 - and there cannot be loads of Michael Berridges born in exton during that era?

Does this mean that only his Mother is listed then?

Rutland Lookup Requests / Berridges of Exton

Hello-
A few years ago, I used this forum to ask for help on my "Michael Berridge" and someone kindly found a man with that name but married in Exton (not in Cottesmore as first thought).

Having taken a break from the whole family history thing - I have now gone through my notes and realised that Michael Berridge may well have lived in Cottesmore for a long time but on the 1851 census his birthplace IS down as Exton.

Sorry for "smudge" when I didn't fully realise that you had found my ancestor on the marriage records - but you had! So, I now know that he married Mary Cooper in 1821, in Exton but have no idea of baptism and who his parents would be?

Would anyone have access to this information, as there seems to be scant Rutland info available on the internet at the moment.

Thank you , and I shall try to take slightly less time than 4 years, to suss out the obvious!

 :)
Thanks for that info! It is a little suprising - the 1851/1841 census list them as cottesmore residents and does not list them as being born elsewhere!!  :-\
Brooke isn't miles away from cottesmore so I guess it is def possible! Will check more into this.
Thanks again for all your help.

Thanks ever so much for that information!  ;D
Very grateful. I don't know about her maiden name, so may have to wait on that one for the time being. I am suprised that the marriage isn't listed as they appear to have lived all their lives in Cottesmore but there you go.........these records aren't always accurate.

Thanks again.

Hi!

I am interested in Michael Berridge - he is on the census for 1851 as living and having been born in Cottesmore - he is 50 (in 1851) and married to Mary Berridge, again born cottesmore and aged 52(1851).

I know that SMUDGE has also offered marriage look ups? Do you have their (Michael and Marry) marriage at all? Not sure when it was but it would be between 1810 and 1830 i would think.......and def cottesmore!

Cheers and thanks for your anticipated help!

Thanks for that Joe - Yes, he invented (John Wallis) a new type of windmill that was regarded highly across the world! They had a factory in Warminster and rumour/legend of his creations have passed down the family to the present day!
I have that census already but thanks for your interest!   ;D
