Cheshire Lookup Requests / Re: Lost Marriage - help please
« on: Friday 19 February 21 12:58 GMT (UK)  »
It might be a long time ago, but in spite of covid I'm still here.
My father had often told me we were cousins with the Pimlotts (they had a shop in Wilmslow and it used to trigger the memory) , and I did trace where Elizabeth Pimlott married Edward Perrin at St Bartholomews, my great grandparents.  I never followed up the Blackshaw side but I guess that means that we are cousins.   I did see that the Mill in Bosley where I found Samuel as a woodturner caught fire a few years back.
Coincidence or what, there was a pub on Brook Lane Alderley in 60's/70's where one of the regulars was called Ken Blackshaw and I believe he was a builder,  one of yours?

Hi, well I did get to Ringway and Oversley, but you are right, all that I remember of the area is under the runways, the tunnels and the emergency access routes into the area. There is nothing visible. I did get up onto the last piece of the Hale road, now renamed the Old Wilmslow Road just in front of the Romper; still doing business but I guess more upmarket than when I was last in there.  The Chapel, now occupied by a design studio is there- not easy to see because the yew trees obscure the view.   I took a picture of part of the entrance but I have a better one from about 1900.
I went on to Morley and the amount of development at the top of the hill has changed all that.
I suppose the basic rule is you can't go back.   Sorry no better news, I have decided to begin searching for old postcard pictures of the area.

I have no papers/pictures of the area and I have yet to trace that part of the Perrins at Oversley- though I did see it on the tithe maps.   I am planning to visit Ringway & Bowdon area next month, I'll see whats around to photograph.  :)

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: Mariners Lane, Norwich
« on: Wednesday 13 October 10 01:00 BST (UK)  »
Thanks so much Shoeman- thats a great site. I managed to look up other streets that my forbears lived in.
I am not surprised that after 120 years inner city cottages have been cleared, but it was worth a try.
The name in Cherry street Lakenham was Tillett.

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Mariners Lane, Norwich

Can anyone tell me whether 24 Mariners Lane, which in 1901 was in St John de Sepulchre parish exists
.  The ref I have  RG13; Piece: 1841; Folio: 105; Page: 24.

Another location I have is Cherry Street in Lakenham.  Before I make plans to visit the area it would be nice to know that I am not looking at redevelopment areas.

Norfolk / Re: Thurston
« on: Monday 12 July 10 18:56 BST (UK)  »
I recognized the name as I cruised the Norfolk postings.

I have Thurstons from around the area of Stibbard. I have a Thomas Thurston marrying Mary Applegate in October 1766.  Any connection?

As the link shows, the Hospital  in the 40's/50's was a residential centre for those suffering from the severest forms of epilepsy, in later years I remember those with dementia who were beyond the support of caregivers were also there.

I believe they also did outpatient treatments  - EEG etc.

I can't speak for those early years but I know in the time  I talk about the patient 'catchment' area was at least a 30 mile radius.

Cheshire / Re: Unicorn Inn - Hale Barns

Just to add to my last post, the Unicorn shows clearly on the Cheshire Tithe Maps and John & Mary Moore are owner/occupiers.   I believe John Moore used to be a Blacksmith.

This is a very old thread but I found it today as I searched for Hale Barns.  I believe the Moores were being researched.

I have a John Moore who married Mary Perrin in 1788.  John inherited some property from his father in law in a will of 1802.

This family are my cousins 6X removed.
