Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Fozard Dewsbury Vital Records etc
« on: Sunday 06 November 11 14:46 GMT (UK)  »
Lynn,
Going back to the possibility that Thomas Fozard's parents were George and Sarah (Scott), the thought occurred to me that there may simply have been some sort of error that Thomas was baptised George Thomas (as clearly he was always known as Thomas). I must confess that I had always assumed that the older George must have died before Thomas was born.
This woulds at least explain why no other likely prospects for his parents emerge and also (since they had a son Joseph) why Thomas's marriage was witnessed by a Joseph Fozard.

Hi,
Yes, I think he probably was baptised George Thomas Fozard. The Dewsbury baptism list shows
George/Thomas Fozard c.16/8/1818 son of John (clothier)& Sarah of Soothill
I can't now remember who helpfully pointed this out to me.
If this is correct then the most likely parents for him are John Fozard (b.1777) and Sarah (nee Scott b.1778) who married in 1798 but I can't prove it. Please let me know if you come up with anything firm. If this is correct his father looks like being Joseph Fozard who possibly was born 1746 and married Mary Lancaster.
Best of luck
Gavin

Thanks but don't think do. My Thomas died in 1873 and I'd be surprised if he had enough estate to warrant probate of a will!

Hi Curioulsynn!
I think I'd have to e-mail you my spreadsheet with misc. information if you'd e-mail me . I too came to a full stop with Thomas Fozard but I have speculated on 3 further generations back (without being able to "prove" connections). Yes, Fergus is somewhat elusive!

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1871 Census, George Bateman
« on: Thursday 07 July 05 16:40 BST (UK)  »
I've still not managed to get back beyond George Bateman or to prove whether the one shown on 1871 census at Hillingdon is the right one. The problem is that this census shows place of birth as Hillingdon while later census entries from 1881 show my George Bateman as born in London. I have not got round to sending off for the marriage certificate between George and Rebecca Dudley (to see who is shown as George's father) - I've been putting it off until I've had the chance to visit my aged father in Suffolk to see if he's got any papers which might give a clue.

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / !861 Census Woodham Ferrers - Barker
« on: Wednesday 01 June 05 15:08 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find David Barker b.1850 at Woodham Ferrers who is shown in the 1871 census as lodging on a farm. I'm hoping that 1861, when he was 11 years old, will reveal the names of his parents. I'd appreciate anything that can be found, particularly the original image.

Thanks for this. I now have the whole set from 1841 onwards! I'm almost certain I'm looking at the same Thomas Fozard household in 1851 and 1861 but unfortunately the children have changed -  I'm guessing the older ones have left home. If you do have access to the 1861 census and happen to be able to see where Josiah Fozard (b.1843) was at this time I'd be very interested.
Thanks again.

Any chance of checking the 1861 census for household of Thomas Fozard please? He’s shown on the 1851 at 42 Upper Streetside, Ossett with wife Hannah. I now know, thanks to a reply to an earlier post, that there’s an entry for a Thomas Fozard on the 1871 census at Milner Street and I’m trying to prove that they are one and the same and who is shown in the household – the children are different but this could be explained by later arrivals after earlier ones had left the nest!

Thanks Andy. I was hoping to look back earlier than 1841 but instead you've come up with a completely new possibility i.e. that Thomas and Hannah had 2 younger boys of whom I was unaware! The rest of the family could well have moved out by 1871 - I know from 1841 and 1851 that they had my ancestor Josiah plus Harriet and Maria(possibly Hannah Maria who died in 1856). It would be interesting to see who appears in this household on the 1861 census. I'll be able to follow up on Benjamin and James now anyway - don't suppose you're able to send the oroginal image?
