Ross & Cromarty / Re: MacKenzie's of Fodderty and Ullapool
« on: Monday 15 January 18 05:12 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings!
Kenneth Mackenzie, b.c. 1790 in Ullapool, d. Feb 1843 at Nairns Close, Edinburgh.
He served as a Private in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers or 55th then 25th Regts of Foot 1806-1833. If anyone can assist with further details about this Kenneth's origins, it would be most welcome.
Thank you
Janice

  Hi Sonas,
Thank you for your reply. Have used Ancestry and come with that Isaac Mann adopted Frances, Henry & John around  1765 as their parents had died.

Isaac was the brother of their Father Samuel.
Frances married Christopher Townsend in 1776
John married Mary Smyth in 1771
Henry married Jayne Smyth in 1767.
They were all married in Cloyne, Ireland. Isaac never married.

Will continue my search on Mann family but, will take time as I am only a beginner.

Once again many thanks for your help.

          Regards,

          Kiddo

There is some evidence that Henry Mann who married Jane Smyth, Smythe, Smith, went to county Tyrone where another two or three generations of Manns can be traced.
Best wishes for your search

I too, am looking for a Kenneth McKenzie, born in the 'parish of Lochbroom, in or near Ullapool'  but about 1783. He served as a private in the 55th regiment from Sept 1806 until Oct 1814 and then with the 25th regiment or Scottish Borderers from 5 Nov 1815 until Nov 1832, with an extension to Jan 1833. He was awarded Chelsea Pensioner status and lived in Edinburgh where he had three daughters by Mary Palmer: Mary (b.c. 1829) who married James Balcarras, and Isabelle (b. c. 1830) who married master tailor Charles Blue. Margaret Jane (b. c. 1825, d. 1856) married John Kerr. Kenneth McKenzie died in 1843 in Edinburgh at Nairn's Close.

Any information or links to family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
