Devon Lookup Requests / Devon - STOCKLAND lookup request
« on: Sunday 22 January 12 03:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I wonder if anyone has access to baptism registers for Stockland in Devon? I'm trying to find the baptism date and parents' names for a JOHN HALSON who I believe was born at Stockland around 1786. He later (before 1830) married a wife named Margaret and I'd also be very interested to know her maiden name. However I don't know where the couple married. It may have been Stockland or at Wyke (near Axminster) where they subsequently lived.

Many thanks for your time and trouble.

Hertfordshire Lookup Requests / COOPER of Hunton Bridge or Abbots Langley
« on: Sunday 25 December 11 01:00 GMT (UK)  »
Merry Xmas everyone.

I wonder if someone can help me with a look-up from the Abbots Langley area parish records if they are available somewhere? I'm trying to establish the mother and any siblings of of a Reuben Cooper who was born at Hunton Bridge or Abbots Langley about 1819. I know his father was a John Cooper but have no other information. There are several John Coopers in Hertfordshire in the 1841 Census but I have no way of knowing which, if any, might be the right one as Reuben is not with his family on that night. Any advice/help much appreciated.

Best wishes

Hi,

Hoping someone can help me out with a couple of East Riding lookups from parish register sources if they have access?

First is a Jane Pickering who was born in Beverley about 1801. I'm hoping to find out when she was baptised and the names of her parents.

The second is the man she married at Drypool, Kingston Upon Hull in Jan 1821: William Spinks (or it may be Spink?). Again, I'd love to establish the date he was baptised and the names of his parents.

Many thanks

Hi Dragongirl,

I don't think this is the same James Sansom, unfortunately. The one who is at Uplyme in 1841 Census is still working at William Davey's farm in the 1851 Census and gave his birthplace as Uplyme, not Honiton or Cullompton - both of which are more than 10 miles away.

I know there are several Sansom families with children detailed in the 1826 Uplyme 'census' by Rector Henry Tuck and I assume he belongs to one of those, so he ought to be in the Uplyme parish baptism register if it survives - but I don't have access!

Many thanks for your help.

Devon Completed Lookup Requests / [COMPLETED] SANSOM (SANSOME etc) of Uplyme
« on: Thursday 01 December 11 16:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to establish the parents of a James Sansom who was born in Uplyme about 1822. He appears in the 1841 Census working at the Canniton (Cannington Lane) farm of a William Davey but never appears alongside his parents and disappears completely after 1851.

I'm keen to discover who his parents were, his mother's maiden name and when he was baptised if anyone has access to such information?

Many thanks

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / [COMPLETED] John Smith (shoemaker) of HALSTEAD, ESSEX
« on: Thursday 01 December 11 15:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I've hit a brick wall with a shoemaker named John Smith (abt 1818-) of Halstead. He's in the 1851 Census at 27 High Street, Halstead, with his wife Susan (abt 1818-) and several children, the first of which - John Smith - was born about 1836. But no trace of John Smith Sr or his wife in the 1841 Census or after 1851. Most likely John and Susan married about 1835/36. I've checked the IGI collection Essex Parish Registers, 1538-1900 without success - perhaps it doesn't include the Halstead registers?.

I'd like to know the maiden name of John's wife Susan and when they married. I'd also like to identify their parents if possible - the 1851 Census suggests both John Smith and Susan were born in Halstead around 1818.

Many thanks

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Iver/Cowley Parish - WEEDON
« on: Wednesday 30 November 11 14:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I wonder if anyone could help me with a tricky one? I have an Ann Elizabeth Weedon who was baptised in Cowley parish on 22 Oct 1848. Cowley parish register gives her parents as labourer Robert Weedon and his wife Ann resident at Iver. But in both the 1851 and 1861 Censuses Ann Elizabeth is instead living with her grandparents - a Richard Weedon (1795-1866, from Heston) and his wife Ann (born Iver abt 1796 but maiden name and parents unknown to me). I haven't found Robert Weedon in any Census and have no idea what became of him or his wife Ann - clearly Robert must have been a son of Richard and Ann's but I have no baptism record. Richard and Ann had son John Weedon (1828-), Hannah (1831-), William (1837-) and Eliza (1839-).

So essentially any of the following information from a parish record source would be very welcome please:
Baptism date for Robert Weedon (circa 1826??)
Maiden name of Robert's wife Ann and marriage date/place?
Maiden name of grandmother Ann (i.e. wife of Richard Weedon) and marr date?

Many thanks
