Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Looking for a few Wills or references to..
« on: Sunday 30 March 25 05:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I hope this is going in the right place....

Looking for the Will of John Walker who died between 1781 - 1785.
He married Dorothy Lomas of Ashover, Derbys and they lived in Holloway or around there.

Dorothy then married Richard Glossop in 1785, he passed away before her in 1809 Crich, cant find a Will for him either...and then Dorothy passed away in 1834 in Crich. Cant find  Will for her either.

I have checked the Derbys Records office and also Staffs as they hold some Wills for people in Derbys. I have checked Ancestry and FindMyPast and still nothing for any of these three people...no land or wills.

So, Dorothy's family were well off and owned land in Ashover. He dad Edward Lomas left her land and money when he passed away in 1801. He also mentioned Richard Glossop as Dorothy's husband at the time. The Will also says they also built a house on the land at Coast Hill, Crich, and she lived there until she died.
Surely she would have a Will? Yeah?? Or if she gave her estate to her children before she died, there would be land transfers or something to say she owned that. I just cant find anyhthing...no reference to the land or a Will. Can anyone help with this tricky one?
Thanks,
Kim

Wow Queenie.....you are an absolute treasure!!! Thanks so much for that.
Now that I look back through my records and info I have complied on the Lomas family, I can see Dorothy having married John walker, but never had the connection that she was the same married to Richard Glossop....so glad I asked the question now!! I love a Will that sheds more lights on relationships?
That helps so much...but yet so far to go still with finding out more about Richard.

Thanks for your help :)

Derbyshire / Glossop family Holloway - Brick Wall
« on: Sunday 16 March 25 05:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

Its been a few years since I researched my Glossop family from Holloway and am just getting back into it. Im hoping that there could now be more records online that could be helpful, but it seems Ancestry has nothing new for me and am yet to revisit more of the Derbys databases.

My interest is Richard Glossop b. abt 1747. I know who he married and all of his kids, so dont want anyone to waste their time in that space. Im just looking at Richard and further back.

So what I have is that he married Dorothy Walker (1785) and lived in Holloway, Crich. He was good friends or family of 3 Lomas brothers, Henry, William & Anthony from Ashover (I know part of Crich was also in Ashover at one stage). Henry & William were witnesses to Richard & Dorothy's marriage in 1785 at Crich. Then Richard was a witness for Anthony's marriage to Sarah Highton in 1784. This says Anthony was also from Crich.

I think I have exhausted all online records for Crich, Holloway, Ashover, Wirksworth areas and cant find a family connection...to the Lomas so thinking they might just be childhood friends. The Lomas boys parents were Edward Lomas & Elizabeth Flint. Im wondering if there are also any land records in the area that could show Richard's name as his wife, Dorothy had a place at Holloway in the 1811 census. More info on Dorothy's family might also shed some light and I dont have much there.

My second issue...is that after looking through all the records (online), a Glossop family in Kirk Ireton, has my attention as they are the only Glossop's I keep coming back to in the area. They also have Richard's and William's (same as my lot)....could he have come from there? I know there is a lot here....but any help with any part of this one would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Kim  :)

Tipperary / Re: Hogan / McInerney from Borrisoleigh

Hi Rose,

Im also connected to the Fitzpatrick's of Borrisoleigh. Perhaps we have a connection. Michael Fitzpatrick married Mary Kathleen Ryan 1833. But she moved to Australia with her sons John and Stephen and I guess this was after her hubby died.
Any connection?
All the best,
Kim

Wiltshire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Census Look up Please 1851/1841 BAKER
« on: Friday 12 March 10 03:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi guys,

I am a descendant of Eliza Baker, daughter of Richard and Susannah that has been mentioned in these posts. I have info on her but not her family. Its interesting that her step brother came to Australia as i have found that Eliza and hubby James Bull came here as did James brother George and his wife Naomi Brown (also from Biddestone / Yatton Keynell) they all lived in Melbourne (after going to Sydney for a short time) and worked in quarries at one time or another. One of Eliza and James daughters went on to marry a wealthy quarry owner James Reid.

Im actually writing a book on the Bull family which Eliza married into and am finding the names of Holder, Beazer, Hand and Beard keep popping up I think they are all related somewhere..Connections with North Wraxall also go back in the Bull family as they brought land from Mr Parker. Do any of these names come up for anyone else researching the family? Would love to share with others connected to this family or any of these families who are connected.
Regards,
Kim

Cambridgeshire / Thomas Hawkins 1764 - Sutton or Castor
« on: Sunday 28 February 10 02:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I seem to have found an ancestor who was born in Sutton around 1764 but every time i try to find him Im told to look in the Northanmptonshire records...then they tell me to look in Cambridgeshire...anyway I have found a few sites that have the parish records but not for the years I need. Can anyone help find Thomas Hawkins and his family in Sutton or Castor? I have called my local libraries but none have these particular parish records and this is my last try. It also seems that pay to view sites dont have these records either. Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Kim

« on: Monday 22 February 10 01:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am very keen to find the details of Thomas Hawkins who apparently was born abt 1764. His marriage in Upton to Ann Baresby says he was from Sutton but I suspect he could have been bapt in Castor.
Im interested in also knowing the rest of Thomas family....parents and siblings if possible.
Thanks,
Kim
