Travelling People / Re: Is Ling a Romany name?

Hi Steve. Many thanks for that. I hadn't thought about the distinction between showmen and gypsies before. And of course in our romantic family stories we're always "real" romany! :) I shall put some proper research into this - and thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks for your speedy reply! We understand our distant cousins of the same name are showground people and were always led to believe that one branch of the family were travellers a century ago. However, our family history is littered with romantic tales and often it's more interesting to find out the truth :)

Europe / Is Evry a Huguenot name?
« on: Sunday 27 September 09 16:19 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have any information about the surname Evry? This branch of the family came from Bath – but we believe they may have originally been Huguenots and we know there is a region in France called Evry. Where would I go for general Huguenot history? Many thanks.

Dear Paul,
We really appreciate you sharing your pictures and information about Reginald Evans. We have been trying to find out more about his life, as he was also my great great uncle.
My side of the Evans family has a special interest in your grandfather Herbert Lionel Leonard. I wonder if you would be kind enough to get in touch with me to share more family history.
Thank you so much.
Kind regards
Siān Evans
