US Completed Requests / COMPLETED - Thomas Clothier - Bedminster, NJ

Hello
I've never needed to look up anything in the US before and not sure where to start.
My g-g-g-grandfather, Thomas Clothier (b.1822) is documented as being born in Ditcheat, Somerset, UK, and living there right through to the 1891 census. But then I can find no record of him, and unlike the rest of his family there is no burial record.
Then I found him on this website: http://www.thetreeofus.net/8/231268.html
with the intriguing information: Died 6 Jun 1893, Bedminster, Somerset, New Jersey USA at age 71
Unfortunately the poster of that information can't remember the source or any further details.
Does anyone know how I can find out more?

EDWARD J. ETTRIDGE, b. 19 Mar 1880, Whitechapel, Mile End New Town
so I'd be interested in any info you have.
I haven't done any research in ages, so I can't remember what I have that would be of help to you, but I'll have a look to see how far it goes back. It sounds like you have a lot more than me.
