We have Gardner's from Waterford City, Co. Waterford, Ireland. My ancestors were Thomas Gardner who married Johanna Mary Leahy. Thomas was in the British army and was retired out when he developed a bad hernia. He and his wife went to Canada to witness her sister's marriage. They could well have stayed there. Thomas was born in 1806. He might have been in Canada while in the army as he apparently got land there in lieu of pay. More details on Waterford@rootsweb.com list.

Maiden Stone, I am sure Paul meant the Siege of Derry which is about when Theopolus Gardner arrived in Derry.

We start with an Anthony Gardner who marries Johanna Mary Leahy in Waterford City in 1809, and they have a son Thomas in 1810.
However, we also DNA connect to a very long line of Gardner DNA people calling themselves Holloway in England. Jim has details.

Thanks, Barbara, I knew Theopolus name but was dearly hoping somebody might know who he was and have some family farther back. Even more I am hoping any one of these Gardner's has had their DNA tested and we can see if we have a match. Just that alone would tell me a lot.
It's early and someone may answer yet.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / William Gardner of Lancashire & Londonderry

"William Gardner from Lancashire commanded a company within the walls of Londonderry in the siege of 1689.   His grandson Allen from Coleraine joined the British navy and attained the high rank of Admiral during the Napoleonic wars."

I am not sure the 2nd sentence is correct, but I am interested in this William who fought in the Battle of the Boyne in Londonderry. I am pretty sure we descend from him. Our family has very distinctive DNA and I wonder if anyone in Lancashire is related to this William and had their DNA tested? Or if ANY Gardner's in Lancashire have tested? Or if anyone knows the parents of this William b aft. 1600?
