Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Bilston

Cati,
Thank you for looking! That was very nice of you and gives me a good start! Maybe I'll check a few of the earlier years and then move out to nearby parishes.  Thanks again, and especially for such quick replies!

Cati,
In the 1841 census: she was 40-44
in the 1851 census: she was 48,
in the 1861 census: she was 60
I've been giving the most credence to the 1851 census, so I've been saying she was born about 1803, but it could certainly be closer to 1801ish.

Thank you for asking!

Thank you so much for posting all this Bilston info!  It enabled me to find an ellusive marriage record:  I now believe that the elusive widow Lydia CRUMMET who married John HUGHES in Tipton, Staffordshire in 1832, was the Lydia COOPER who married John CRUMPETT in Wolverhampton in 1820.  Yeah! "COOPER," a new surname for me!

Now, having examined lots of marriage records over a span of years in the 1820s in Wolverhampton St. Peter's, I have a question:  Every marriage record said both marriage parties were 'of this parish.'  Could they have all really lived there or was the parish so recorded because it was 'the parish' for marriages for people from Bilston and other locales?

My John HUGHES' census records say he was born in Bilston.  Lydia's census records say she was born in Brierly Hill.  But that's all I have to go on in the quest for their early records.    Thanks, again!!!

Thank you, Judy, for your very kind words!  It's especially nice to know my blog is appreciated.  I know what you mean about discovering/reading genealogy blogs, too.  I really work hard at keeping to a minimum &/or as closely related to my research as possible.  I'm in California, USA, and have only been to England once.  I'd love to get to Hill End someday;  I'm jealous that you were that close!

Hi, Bramcor!  How nice to hear from you!  Yes, George is a common name among my Causier's and, especially given the Hill End address, I'm sure yours is connected to mine some how.  I have 4 George Causier's in my database, but none who could be yours.  I suspect that yours is a grandson or great-grandson of my William by his first wife, Leticia Willis.  Since my line is by his second wife, I have collected only scattered data on Letitia's descendants: usually when I was trying to keep all the area's Causier's straight!  If you'd like more data, just let me know; I'm glad to share!

Dear Friends,
Thank you again for all your help!  I went back to the Dodderhillhistory.org site again yesterday and found my great-great-great-grandfather, William Causier, actually mentioned on one page.  Links there took me to the Worcestershire County Council site, where I actually found a database and map specifically labeling William's parcel in the tithe maps of 1845!  And, Hill End was labeled, too!  A street view at Google maps showed me the Hill End bus stop right about where William's parcel was!

Now, of course, new information leads to more questions.  The database says the Area of the parcel was 0,0,9     What might those units of measure be for that time period?

Again, I am so excited!  Thank you so very much for all your help!

Andy,
Thank you for thinking of me.  This is a super site: it's going to take me ages to read it all!  The maps will be especially useful.  I've made a note to check back regularly as they add records, too.  Thank you, again!

CaroleW, Finbar Resartus, Danuslave, libby9, and dave the tyke,
My goodness! I continue to be so impressed by how quickly RootsChat gets me so many quality responses.  The alternate spelling will be especially useful; I would never have thought of that one.  Thank you so much for all the detailed information: it's exactly what I was looking for!
