Dublin / 1916 prisoners in Wormwood Scrubs
« on: Thursday 10 June 10 17:03 BST (UK)  »
I have found references to questions posed by Mr Byrne in the House of Commons about my grandfather, William (Liam) Derrington, who was imprisoned in Wormwood Scrubs and the treatment he received there.  Can anyone tell me where I might be able to find out more information about the conditions and treatment of prisoners?  Also were there any records kept about prisoners that I might be able to get hold of?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Sorry.  I know the 2 children were born approx 1870 and 1871. I think William was killed a few years later.

Many thanks

I wondered whether anyone could help me.  I'm trying to find out any info on William Derrington who was a Sergt AHC at the Military Barracks Armagh.  He was married to a Julia Anne Hunt.  2 of his children (William Thomas Henry & John Joseph) were born whilst he was stationed there.  I believe he may have been killed but not sure how.  How do I go about searching for any records?  I have a civil birth record for John Joseph from IFHF.

Many thanks

Clare

Not sure whether people have come across the book The History of the Sinn Fein Movement and the 1916 Rebellion before but there is a list of names in the Appendix that might be of interest

I presume the William Darrington mentioned may possibly be him.  Many thanks for that.

Hi Patrick.

Thank you for your prompt reply.  I believe he was known as Liam as well.

Hello to everyone.  I'm new to all this having just discovered this page yesterday.  I'm looking for any info on my grandfather William Patrick Derrington (I can't see his name on any of the lists here). I know he was a member of the 1st Battalion "D" company and fought in the Mendicity Institue during Easter Week.  Apparently he was the youngest to be tried at that time on the capital charge but on account of his age was given a sentence of 2 years.  He ended up in Wormwood Scrubs jail.

I have found a reference to him in a book on the History of the Sinn Fein movement (at least I presume it's him)

If anybody can suggest where I can find any more info on him or the battalion he was with I would be very grateful.  Also I don't know where he went after he was released from jail (he eventually settled in Coventry) - are there any prison records that would give me that information?

Hope someone can help.

Regards

Clare
