Rose Purcell was my great great grandmother. We knew her as Roseana, although she is listed variously as Rose Ann and Rosa. The 1851 Census shows her aged 35(?) and living with her husband Francis Timmons in the village of Chapelhall, Lanarkshire,Scotland. They have two children living with them, John (18) a coal miner and Susan (14). Another daughter, Rosa(11) is listed as a servant with a local family. I have traced a further daughter Elizabeth who married a James Donnelly in Baillieborough in 1849. It would seem that she did not come to Scotland until circa 1855, ultimately settling in Mothewell. The Register for Deaths Lists a Rose Ann Timins as having died on the 18 Dec. 1879 in the Poor House, Motherwell aged 74.The entry lacks the usual names and professions of her father and mother but I have no doubt that this is Rose Purcell.
