Cork / Re: John O'Connell from County Cork

Hello Ron
You may remember me contacting you about the Dempseys of Cork a few years ago.  I have had a breakthrough with mine.  The UK 1911 census requests that the parish of birth is entered and my Nelly Dempsey (aka Ellen Dimsea, Dimsey etc) enters her birth as Dromdaleague (between Dunmanway and Skiberreen).  I thought you may have luck doing the same for Mary.  Julia Henry

Hello
I have been looking for a baptism in Drimoleague an adjoining parish to Dunmanway, and succesfully used the Irish Times research company on their site, although it would be expensive if you needed several.  This site will also list the townlands of the parish which may narrow the search down for you.   Best wishes Julia

Cork / Re: McDonnell's of Mallow 1850-1950's

Hello
My gt grandfather was Michael McDonnell/McDonald born in Mallow in 1859   I was told Michael  had an aunt who married a Smyth and a stepsister named Catherine.  His father was Patrick McDonald born Lismore, Waterford in 1837.  His stepmother was Margret Mathias, who was married in Honeyborough, Pembrokeshire, Wales in 1861.  They lived in Brooklyn, New York and Pennsylvania.  Catherine and Michael returned to Ireland.  Michael married, settled and died in Wales.   I have found a baptism for Michael in Doneraile in 1859, his mother being Deborah LOUIS,after whom Deborah McDonnell, my grandmother, was named.  She was born in 1889.
