Dublin / Re: UPDATED - Members of the Irish Citizen Army 1916 - Names List

Hello to everyone.  I'm new to all this having just discovered this page yesterday.  I'm looking for any info on my grandfather William Patrick Derrington (I can't see his name on any of the lists here). I know he was a member of the 1st Battalion "D" company and fought in the Mendicity Institue during Easter Week.  Apparently he was the youngest to be tried at that time on the capital charge but on account of his age was given a sentence of 2 years.  He ended up in Wormwood Scrubs jail.

I have found a reference to him in a book on the History of the Sinn Fein movement (at least I presume it's him)

If anybody can suggest where I can find any more info on him or the battalion he was with I would be very grateful.  Also I don't know where he went after he was released from jail (he eventually settled in Coventry) - are there any prison records that would give me that information?

Hope someone can help.

Regards

Clare

Hi Clare,
I don't see him on the Mendicity garrision Roll of Honour. The nearest would be a Liam Derrington. Liam being
William as well and it stated that he was part of the Four Courts Garrision During easter week. I will see what else I can come up with.

Regards
Patrick

My Grandfather Patrick Dalton (also known as Patrick J. D'Alton) was in the Dublin Brigade of the Old IRA. I understand that he was in the Mendicity Institute in 1916 at the age of 15, I believe he was in Fianna Eireann. I recently obtained the following letter from an uncle.

Any help in tracking down further information would be greatly appreciated.

I found a Patrick Dalton GPO Garrison from F Coy 1st Battalion. He is also on the Roll of Honour. Sometimes the volunteers were relocated to different parts of the city. hope this helps.

Regards
Patrick
