Cavan / Marshall family info, Cootehill, Co Cavan
« on: Thursday 12 November 09 12:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi!

I am trying to find any information on the family of Margaret Marshall.
(my g,g,g grandmother)

I believe that she was born in Cootehill in 1816. Later emigrated to NSW, Australia where she married George Souter.

I don't have any detail on parents, siblings or her age when she left Ireland. Any assistance or advice would be much appreciated.
thank you
Lyn

Hi Kimberley,

Not sure if you're still willing or able to take a photograph at Karrakatta but if so, would you possibly look for my great uncle Brian Henry Lincoln?

He was 4th Battalion AIF and is in the War Cemetary...plot N, Row B, Grave 6.  d.15/3/1943

I would be extremely grateful if you could help.

many thanks in anticipation
Lyn

Tipperary / O'Keeffe family - Tipperary
« on: Thursday 15 October 09 11:37 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information regarding my line of the O'Keeffe family in Tipperary.

My gg grandfather William O'Keeffe was born approx 1844 in Tipperary. He emigrated to Vic. Australia sometime around 1865 and married Alice Mitchell in 1877.

his parents are listed on his marriage certificate as Patrick O'Keeffe and Catherine O'Keeffe (nee Taylor). Patrick's occupation was listed as 'farmer'.

I am hoping to learn which town they may have lived, dates for parents B,D,M and if William had any siblings.

Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Lyn

Hi John,
yes that does sound like it may well be who I'm looking for. I will consider purchasing that certificate to be certain. Many thanks for your help.

Hi Nell,
Thanks for the reminder, it's much appreciated. The George I am researching has definitely passed but I will be careful.

Ayrshire / George Clark - Ayr b.1927

I am trying to find any information about the family of George Clark.

I believe George was born in 1927 in Ayr. His parents were George and Rosina (could have been Maria)  He may have had at least 2 sisters.

George joined the Merchant Navy when he was just 14yrs old and eventually settled in Australia.

Any assistance locating details on George and his family would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the welcome, Mick.

I've been lurking off and on for a while but never posted before today.  I'll definitely take a look at that link for future look ups.

Yes, I think you are right about Mary/May being one and the same.

Joseph's family live in and around Gateshead, Newcastle in NSW. An area whose main industry is mining, so the family didn't move far from their roots despite being across the world.

Wow! Thank you so much Gary and Mick.  I had no idea I would get a response so quickly!  This definitely looks like the correct family.

I do suspect that the Hope was a second name (possibly the surname of a g mother which was passed along?)

I noticed on the 1841 census, there were Hopes living in Seaham Harbour which I believe is just a few miles away? Maybe that's a lead worth following?

Mary is no doubt the 'May' that we had heard about.

Thanks again for your help, it's much appreciated. Lyn
