I understand the reasons for a Will being sealed (I found a Belfast Will - 1958 - sealed in London).  GOV.UK said something about a 50 yr period but they haven't explained what that is.  Can anyone help please?  I tried contacting them again, but to no avail!

Thank you all for your help.  I'd got Eric possibly married to Catherine, as well as his death in 1967.  I hadn't searched far enough afield for him in 1939.
Now to the RAF and taht photo! :)

Eric Astin was born in 1911.  I located his birth. He doesn't appear in the 1939 Register and I 've lost him.  I've been told that a photo exists of him in RAF Uniform, but not dated ... hence my query about the RAF.
Will try TNA.  Thank you.

Can anyone advise?  I have an Eric Astin of West Yorkshire listed as RAF Militia but nothing more than that.  How do I start to find out more?  Help VERY much appreciated

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Burgoyne/Thornton

Thanks for the tips about Ireland and friends/neighbours.  I'd only looked within the family (that's how I'd found the 'Brooking' connection).

John Burgoyne Thornton appeared in 1873 for the first time: in the Thornton (Tavistock, Devon) family. Have been trying to find the link between 'Burgoyne' and 'Thornton' ... without success.  Has anybody else had better luck?

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Spencer & Boyle family, Leeds

I was very excited to read your post about Richard Spencer and would love to know more.  Is your family a branch of mine?  Or were they perhaps just friends of mine?  I'd be interested to know more.
Richard Spencer  was in the 2nd Boer War in 1901 but had returned safely by the 1911 Census ... perhaps you know this already.  He was the 2nd husband of my Great Grandmother Elizabeth.  that's my connection to him.
