Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA connections through 5th - 8th cousin matches
« on: Wednesday 31 July 24 01:36 BST (UK)  »
Hope this makes sense. My mum & I have a 5th to 8th cousin DNA match (No other shared matches with him), who shares the same 4th great grandparents to my Grandfather's 1st wife ( I’m descended from my Grandfather's 2nd wife, and have DNA matches to confirm). In my distant cousin's family tree, he has mapped from himself to said 1st wife which has linked us as a possible DNA match through that link, obviously possible there are mistakes but he is fairly confident from researching with other distant cousins that his line is correct. However, 1st wife is not my grandmother, if his tree is correct how could I be DNA linked to the 1st wife if I'm descended from the 2nd wife?  Are there any suggestions as to how I could be DNA-connected? Is it possible my Grandfather & 1st wife had a child who would be a half-sibling to my mum, could that be how the DNA is linked? Or is this just a coincidence he's linked to the 1st wife and we must be DNA matched through a different line? I can’t get my head around it. Thanks Ella

Hi,

I am looking for records of Lawrence Leaf who served in the Fleet Air Arm (R/N), AM/A, Service # FX585949, Date of Discharge was 9th June 1946. He was born in Castleton, Rochdale, England on the 5th of October 1916.

The problem is I have no idea where they are located or how to request them. Is there anyone who knows?

Thanks
Ella

Thanks for your replies - Clifford was married in Scotland.
Tom died in 1931, Leeds, England. Apparently, the story is that Elizabeth and Tom married before he went to war, in case he was killed she'd officially get any benefits, so all their children except Clifford were born outside of the marriage.

Hello

I am trying to track down a death date/certificate for Elizabeth Smith but I have come to a dead end as to how to narrow it down. Can anyone help?

Elizabeth Jowitt, born 1886 Leeds, England married Tom Smith on 20th Nov 1915, Leeds England. They had 6 children Elsie, Willie, Ada, Tom, Alice & Clifford. Cliffords marriage certificate in 1942 notes his parents as  Tom smith (deceased) & Elizabeth smith nee Jowitt. Leading to believe she is still alive in 1942. After that is a mystery.

Thanks Ella

Thanks for the info everyone, I have purchased the transcript but will take a couple weeks to come
I have another question as I’m a bit stumped on

In 1977 & 1980 in the Aust electoral rolls he is in a veterans home but I can’t find any details that he served. The 2 records that come up in the UK don’t match the time line / dates for my Lawrence Leaf  & there’s nothing in the Aus records

Would their be a reason his details aren’t coming up ??
Thanks for your help
