I have noticed that Legacy, which is owned by My Heritage, is offering a free download of vers.10 of their software and I am hoping current users can assist.  My query is in regard to storage (or possible sharing) of my data.

In the FAQs on the Legacy site it says, "users can rely on continuing to use Legacy on their personal computer, unconnected to the Internet, with the tree data stored alone on their computer ...".

What is the reality if I download the free version?  Does the free version require any of my info / data to be stored external to my own computer, even a copy of it?  Can I really run the free version on my computer without access to the internet?

Thanks

Somerset Lookup Requests / Microfiche at Somerset Heritage Centre

I would be grateful if someone who visits the Somerset Heritage Centre can kindly assist me by checking a record that is held there on microfiche.

The details are:
Ref. No.  D/D/cd/20 - Diocese of Bath & Wells - Deposition Books 1584-1585 (The catalogue says "available on microfiche")
Page 39-40, which is supposed to be "Robert Owen versus William Philppes, case of libel"

The catalogue makes reference to a witness: William Godwyn of Wells St Cuthbert, aged about 35.  I am keen to learn of any other information that may be recorded about Godwyn (and so I can decide if it is worth me paying £20, at least, for a copy of the pages).

Thank you
Shirl

Yes the museum confirmed those are the records.
Thanks again mckha489 for your suggestion.

I agree, some of it looks like secret code.  Apart from act bk, here's another that has stumped me; the bit in red.

P. H. Hembry, Bps. Bath and Wells, 1540-1640, p. 44; Wells act bk. 2, p. 541; 3, ff. 16, 20;

The semicolon seems to indicate another in the list of references but then ff. usually means 'and the following pages'.  I'm wondering if it means, 'act book 3, pages 16 & 20'?  ???

Thank you very much, it looks like that might be it. I'll contact the museum to see if they can help.

Somerset / Wells Act Book(s)
« on: Wednesday 26 February 25 03:14 GMT (UK)  »
In the online version of The History of Parliament, in relation to those elected from the constituency of Wells there are numerous references (footnotes) to Wells act bk. 2.

It seems these city act books were some form of record of the administration / government of the Borough of Wells.  However, I have not been able to learn anything about the records and I hope other researchers can enlighten me.

I am keen to know:
  • the full or correct title of the record(s)
  • the archives where they are held
  • whether they have been published, either in book form or online.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Thank you Molly C, and Kay99 for the references.  It certainly looks like it was Taunton.

Somerset / Is Tanton near Wedmore?
« on: Sunday 09 February 25 03:41 GMT (UK)  »
I have found a baptism (1597) and a burial (1598) in the Wedmore parish register which shows, in Latin, that the child's father was de Tanton.  (i.e. of Tanton).

Is anyone aware of a place; hamlet, location, farm etc. called Tanton in reasonbly close proximity of Wedmore.   I guess it's possible that the place is Taunton, but wonder if there was a Tanton closer to Wedmore.

Thany you
