London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: JAMES FENTON of Golden Lane Watchmaker
« on: Wednesday 08 October 25 19:06 BST (UK)  »
It makes sense that she was Elizabeth Cox then married James Fenton.
I’ve trawled through records on findmypast, freereg , ancestry, family search, the London archives, national archives and haven’t found them. I’ve moved out of London too so going to the archives is no longer possible.
I could go through the newspaper archives or find some directories online. That might shed some light.

It could also be that their particular parish records aren’t online.

It’s not a biggie, it’ll just be nice to tick that box :)

That makes sense. I’ve located the rest, I just haven’t found anything about the Fentons

She refers to Elizabeth as her niece so I assumed it would be Warner. The other last names in the will are White and Allen but she definitely states that Elizabeth is her niece, the other last names appear to be people who have married into the family.

I haven’t found the marriage but it definitely says Fenton in Mary Warners will

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / JAMES FENTON of Golden Lane Watchmaker

Hi

I have been round in circles trying to find any information on James Fenton. He is mentioned in a will by Mary Warner who died in 1799 in Enfield. She references her niece Elizabeth Fenton the wife of James Fenton of Golden Lane watch maker. I thought I’d find him listed as an apprentice but I haven’t come up with anything thus far. If anyone could help locate anything on James or Elizabeth that would be amazing!

Armed Forces / 1858 Royal Navy records help
« on: Thursday 22 August 24 11:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi

My ancestor was stationed on the Magicienne in july 1858, his last port was Saypan, Ladrones which is now known as Saipan in the Mariana islands.

It’s difficult to say if he was discharged or if he deserted.

Does anyone know how I can find out what happened to him? I’m unable to travel to London in person, which makes things more difficult!

Also does anyone know how I can find out why it is named Magicienne Bay? I assume it was because the ship was there but I was wondering if something may have happened to give it the name.

Thanks!

Canada Lookup Request / Re: Bc death registration lookups

It is a very complicated family and too much info to post but the jist is Lillian was born in London to Barney’s first wife, Barney arrives in Canada in 1910, the passenger lists says 9 years, it’s hard to read but either way, 9 years previously he has been in Canada. Lillian joins him in 1914 at the age 16. Barney and his second wife visit England in 1913.

He could be a Bernard but I haven’t found a birth or marriage that fits that name either.

I go back to him every so often hopefully next time I pick it up something new will pop up on the genealogical websites :)

Thank you very much and thank you for your time :) it is most appreciated. I’m starting to wonder whether he changed his name but I guess that’ll be a mystery for the time being :)
