Hi Saffy,
Is your William McTear, known as William Mateer the father of Eliza Jane born in Bangor 23 Aug 1864 & Samuel James born 5 Jan 1867 in Bangor, the mothers are listed as Sarah Lindsay.
If so Have a look in Emerald Ancestors web site I think it is about 9 pounds for a month but may be worth it

Hi Claidmhor,
Yes we are related I am the son of Louisa Truesdale. Louisa passed away in 2005, her brother Samuel passed away 2 June this year.
I knew Franke & his brother John and I visited the Blue Row weekly up until 1971 when I left the area.
I have a photo of Ellen Truesdale's headstone which lists her sons their wives and some of their children.
Your grandfather's brother William died on the western front in 1916.
I have a photo of 19 Blue row taken after Fred Truesdale died and it was being renovated

Hi Rosemary Joan & Claidmhor
The Truesdales you mentioned are my family on my mothers side.
James Trusdale's son Robert (born 1828) married Ellen Ross of Clarkhill in Drumballyroney Church on 4 Sept 1849. Ellen was the daughter of James Ross a farmer of Clarkhill. Robert was a widower and Ellen was his second wife.  They had 2 sons Francis & Robert. After Robert died Ellen moved back to her family at Clarkhill with her 2 sons. They became known as Truesdales
Ellen's son Francis married Elizabeth Ferguson they had 2 children May & Samuel. There may have been more children.
Ellen's son Robert married Sarah Louisa Sterne in Belfast on 26 Dec 1883.
They had seven children, Francis, Richard, Sarah, Robert, William, David & Frederick the later being my grandfather

Hi Rosemary Joan,
Robert' Mother was Ellen Truesdale from Clarkill, Castlewellan.
I am unsure of Ellen's maritial status, she may have been Ellen Johnson who married a William Truesdale in 1850. However that is all I know about William, if he was Robert's father he either died young or left the family as there is no mention of him on Ellen's headstone.
Ellen had 2 children that I know of Francis & Robert. Ellen died 13 Dec 1875 aged 55 years which puts her birth about 1820.
Ellen Johnson was born 11 Sept 1820 the daughter of Bernard Rooney & Mary Johnson.I believe she married a William Truesdale in 1850 The Johnson family came from Kilcoo not far from Castlewellan
Robert died 26 Aug 1921 aged 69 which puts his birth about 1852.
Francis died 3 Aug 1925 aged 73 which puts his birth about 1852 maybe they were twins but I think Francis was born 1851 and they are the only children of Ellen Truesdale that I could find.
I will get my Grandfather Frederick Truesdale's  birth certificate
many thanks for all your kind help

Hi Rosemary Joan,
You are correct Robert Truesdale was a shomaker his first born was Francis born 1884 Robert was my great grandfather his son Frederick born 1897 was my grandfather and he inherited his fathers shoe making tools which I have played with as a child my mother, Frederick's daughter was called after Roberts wife Sarah Louisa, the rest of Roberts family was born in Clarkill, Castlewellan in the Downpatrick registration district,  I have as a child visited one of the Truesdales in Clarkill I think it was Francis who we knew as Franke Truesdale. I was looking for the Maiden name of Robert,s wife Sarah Louisa.
Robert also had a brother Francis about a year older than Robert.
You have got the right stick
If you have Truesdales in your family we may be related
I have included a headstone of the Truesdale from Clarkill on my profile the names on it may be of some interest to you

I think my lip is dropping again
the LDS data base lists Sarah Russell married Oct-Dec 1984 Vol 1 Page No 223 Banbridge
and Robert Truesdale married OCT-DEC 1884 Vol 1 Page No 223 Banbridge the other marriages on the page are Sarah Stratten & John Sterrit

I should have checked the church records the last time I visited Ireland in 2005 but I didn't know the names then
