Thanks for that Rog.

Unfortunately I think the parents were John and Ann, but I will check it out.

Thanks for working with my request.

I was hoping someone on the 'Kent' site would have a chance to look at the local records for me.

I have checked out the E Sussex parishes quite extensively.

Is there a way of finding who owned this farm - Magreed farm metioned on the 1841 and 1851 Census records of Heathfield.

The census gives me the tenants' names only, I think.

Kent Lookup Requests / John Oliver b. 1809
« on: Saturday 13 February 10 14:11 GMT (UK)  »
I have a family of Olivers in the Parish records of Mayfield in E Sussex. where I have found a marriage of a John and Ann Oliver, and the births of their first 3 children.

I am trying to find the next child, John Oliver b. 1809, who says he was b. in Mayfield, but the family MAY have moved over the border into Kent before he is Christened, because after the 3rd child in 1804, there is no further mention of the family in the Mayfield Parish records at all.
I have checked all the surrounding Sussex Parishes.

On the 1841 Census, I find the parents, John and Ann Oliver have returned to a stone's throw from Mayfield, but now just inside Heathfield Parish
Their children have all left home, but their oldest daughter is m. and living on the same farm in the next Census, in 1851, where her now widowed father John is living with her and her family.

Could someone check if this family has registered any births in Kent, especially that of John in 1809

A long shot, but worth a try.

Thank you all for your help.

However, I managed to get to the National Records office and look through the films, and my John Oliver's birth is not there.

I have a record of the first three children b. in this family, christened at Mayfield.
There are then no more records of births in this family; ( I am sure I have identified the Family/parents of the John I am searching for;) from 1804 onwards
However, my John Oliver says on a census record that he was b. in Mayfield in 1809.

I also find, what I think are these same parents, in their 70s, living down the road, just outside Mayfield Parish, after John and his siblings have left home.

So where is this family between 1804 and 1840, or more to the point, where are the children baptised?
Not in the local Independent Chapel.

Were they baptised all at once, when a daughter was getting married, as I know can happen?
If so, where would I find them?

John was later m. in the CofE; would he need to show proof of christening for this to be allowed?

I have checked all the surrounding Parishes foe his b. in 1809 at Lewes records office.
Should I try Kent records?

Can anyone tell me where I can look for a birth in the Heathfield Independent Chapel Records please?

Hi Kerry,

Do you have a complete line of Olivers going back from your verifiable relations to this 'Gervais' in the 1500s?
I would love to have a copy, if and when I have made a connection with them.

Do you mind me tapping in to your hard work?!

I suppose there MAY be records in the Scilly Isles for the 1500s, and we could see if they tie up with your 'Gervais'

Best wishes,
Annette
