Family History Beginners Board / Re: Edward Westhead and Harriet Royle/Chappell

I have only just spotted this "chat" by doing a google search but I would love to get in touch with the person interested in Edward Westhead and Harriet Royle as I have found some very interesting records relating to their family. It was a long time agao that this message was posted but if anyone is still interested, please get in touch.

If the offer is still there, I would love to know if there is a gravestone for my 3x great grandparents, John and Dorothy Bowsfield/Bousfield/Busfield/Bushfield, in St John's Gateshead Fell. Dorothy died in 1846 and John in 1850. I have completed write-ups on both and will try to attach Dorothy's here but John's is 88MB and therefore too big a file. I aim happy to share it if anyone knows of a method to swap e-mail addresses?
Best regards

Hi Porgi
Since posting my enquiry about the Ship Inn, Milnew Quay (now Bill Quay) I have found a photo of it on the website iSeeGateshead which has many many photos of this area and I have been sent the pub on an old map courtesy of Ken Roddam on the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society Forum.
Good luck with your hunting.

Hi. My 3x great grandfather was John Gibson. He was a 'Publican' and after many months of searching I discovered last night (through Ward's directory) that the pub was The Ship, Pelaw Main. He died in 1843 and the pub was taken over by his wife, Eleanor. They lived in Milnew Quay and I originally guessed that the pub was The Staithe Inn because the Parson and White directory has the entry 'John Gibson, Ship Launch' Malune Quay. Do you know anything about The Ship and whether it was the same pub as The Staithe House? I live in Wales so don't know the area at all. My family name is Bousfield but I am also researching Willoughby (I think Dorothy lived in Church Street, Sheriff Hill), Jeffells and Jameson. (I have given up on Brown and Robson).
Best regards

Thanks for your help and advice. I don't have Ancestry but I do log on to it in the library now and again. Now I know what those numbers were you put in your earlier message! Thanks again!

Another great great grandfather, named John Gibson, also lived at Milnew Quay. In the 1841 census he  is cited as a Publican. He died in 1843. In the 1851 census his wife, Eleanor, is cited as an Innkeeper. I presume she has taken over the same pub but she is at Pelaw Main and I'm not sure if it's the same place?

My great great grandfather was Ralph Bowsfield who is cited in the 1841 census on Ancestry as being at Milnew Quay in the township of Jarrow.
