My G.Grandmother MARTHA LEWIS was 3 x married, 3 x widowed and had nine children. She was born in Whitchurch Pembs. 1865 and died in Caerau, Bridged Glamorgan in 1927.

Husband No. 1 was Jonah WILLIAM DAVIES b. Neath 1863 d. Wigan 1893. MARTHA LEWIS and JONAH W. DAVIES were married in Swansea in 1887. Their three children were MARY HANNAH DAVIES  b Swansea 1888,  she married  a SAMUEL GRIFFITHS in London 1917. WILLIAM VAUGHAN DAVIES b Chesterfield 1890 and died in Wigan in 1893.  SIDNEY JAMES DAVIES b Wigan 1892 and died in London in 1953?

Martha Davies now a widow with two children returned to Swansea and gave birth to twins - WILLIAM GEORGE DAVIES  and CATHERINE ANN DAVIES in 1895 (no fathers name on birth certs.)

Husband No. 2 was HENRY DIXON (a widower with three children) who was born in Whitehaven in 1858?. MARTHA DAVIES and Henry Dixon married in Swansea in 1897.  They had four children  AGNES MAUD DIXON b Swansea 1988 d Caerau, Bridgend 1910.  FLORENCE MAY DIXON b Swansea 1900, and married JAMES HOPKINS b Bridgend in 1924.  MARTHA ELIZABETH DIXON b Swansea 1902 d Swansea 1903.  GLADYS DIXON b Swansea 1903 married JOHN FISHER in Bridgend 1922

Henry Dixon`s three children from his first marriage were all born in Swansea viz WILLIAM H DIXON 1889, THOMAS JAMES DIXON 1891, and JOHN DIXON 1893. They all lived with Henry and Martha in Swansea and Caerau, Bridgend.  HENRY DIXON died in a colliery accident in Abercrave in the Swansea Valley in 1916.

MARTHA DIXON now a widow married JOHN T. HOWELLS  (a widower) in Llangynwyd,  Bridgend in 1916.  The marriage was fraught with difficulties, and they lived apart longer than they lived  together.  JOHN HOWELLS died ? and  MARTHA HOWELLS died 1927 in Caerau, Bridgend in 1927.

A complicated family with common surnames  but with much help I may be able to unravel.

Hello Hotrod,

In reply to your query Lucy Blackmore nee Clements died 20.7.1901 in Shaw St. Runcorn from Cerebo Spinal Meningitis 8 days whilst Walter Edwin Blackmore died 11.5.1911 in Bristol Royal Infirmary from Pyonephrosis Uretural Stricture following a horse and cart accident.  He was apparently an epilectic.

Interestingly, your story of William Clement b Parkham 1853 who married Christina Rees in 1873 and adopting Lucy Clements illigitimate child in 1882-1883 has a ring of truth about it.  William Clement d Neath 1903 whist Christina Died in Neath in 1933. Their only child - William John Clements.

From the free BMD Indices  I found a  William John Clement b Dec 1884 Neath, and a William John Clement b July 1879 Swansea.  Also, a Wm John Clements B July 1883 Swansea and a Wm John Clements b Totnes in 1881.  All would be, I suggest possible candidates for Lucy Clements base born child.

I would be interested to hear your family story.

Regards,

E. Blackmore

Dear HotRod,

My G G Grandfather Walter Edwin Blackmore b Bridgwater 1886 married Lucy Clements b 1857 Parkham.  They married in Swansea in 1884, a witness was Lucy`s sister  Mary Ann Adams aka Margaret/Mary Annie  b Parkham 1851. She married Francis Wm Adams b Bridgwater in Swansea in 1881.

Walter Blackmore and Lucy had three children

Walter Edwin  b 1886 Landore Swansea, Thomas John b 1888 Landore Swansea, and Lucy Ann b 1891 Ellesmere Port.

Lucy Blackmore died July 1901 in Runcorn. and the family then moved back to Walters` home in Bridgwater and he died in Bristol Infirmary in 1911.

Lucy Clements children`s descendants as far as I know have now have no link with the Runcorn area. Walter b 1866 (my line) live(d) in South Wales.  Thomas b 1881 live(d) in Somerset whilst Lucy Ann b 1891 married and emigrated and live(d) in  W. Australia.

However, Mary Annie Adams  (nee Clements)  descendants still live in the Cwmafan, Port Talbot area in South Wales. This may be worth you following up.

Cumberland / Henry Dixon born Whitehaven 1859?
« on: Monday 01 June 15 10:26 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to glean information and family details of Henry Dixon (f William), born Whitehaven 1859?.
He spent most of his adult life in South Wales and was twice married. Firstly to Mary Jane Morgan  1887 in Swansea. They had three children. Then being a widower, he married my g.grand mother a widow Martha Davies, born Martha Lewis (f William) in 1866 Whitchurch, Solva Pembrokeshire. They had five children, maybe seven, and the children and step children lived together in Swansea and Caerau, Maesteg, Bridgend.

Henry Dixon died in 1914 following a colliery accident in Abercrave, Swansea Valley.

Dear Triciables,

I am not sure whether my reply to you was A1.  It appears that your William Broadhurst 1874 is a brother of Charlotte, who is my wife`s Grandmother.  She married John Henry  Barnes in Andover 1892.

My wife Eileen Barnes will, when she is ready to trace her line, get in touch with you.

Any further information we glean we can reciprocate with each other.

Many thanks and best of luck.

The 1891 census returns from Netherpool Runcorn show Walter E Blackmore 29 born Somerset , his wife Lucy Ann 28 born Devon and children Walter E 6 and Thomas J 2  both born Swansea - no sign of baby Lucy Ann born 18.1.1891 and registered 20.2.1891 in Ellsemere Port  Runcorn.

Despite searching the 1891 census I have drawn a blank for a two and a half month baby. The family are complete and  together on the Runcorn 1901 census at Shaw Street,  However I cannot find Lucy Ann Blackmore (20) anywhere in the 1911 returns.
I believe her mother Lucy died in Cheshire about 1906 and in 1911 her father Walter and brother Thomas are in Bridgwater with Walter senior`s Grandparents, whilst brother Walter is married in Pontypridd South Wales.

Can fellow rootschatters suggest why a young baby is not with her mother on census day.  Also has anyone access to Runcorn school records etc which might provide information on the elusive Lucy Ann

Help will be really appreciated.
