Hello

I purchased a photograph at an antiques fair a couple of months back and I'd really like to find out more about the photographer and the subject. THe photograph is black and white of a woman peeping round a theatre curtain (circa late 40s). It would be great if I could find the relatives of the photographer.

The info on the back of the photograph is as follows.

I'm going to see if I can find out anything from FRPS but if anyone has any information I'd be really grateful.

Many thanks

Hi Cat, i am assuming we are talking about Wexford in ireland??
it may help if further queries are put on the Irish board where specialist knowledge/local knowledge will be available.

have you got patrick on the 1901 census? presumably with parents because of age.

Diddy  ;)
Hi

Yes I found Patrick on the census for 1901 and 1911 for Ireland. In the search it asks for Patrick's age in 1911. I didn't find anything under his birth name but I did find a match under Barry.

Thanks for the info on the Irish board. I'll do that.

Many thanks

Hi and welcome to RC.

Is it possible that your ggrandmother (Patricks mum) was married twice/ ie james Murphy died and she remarried a James Barry? Patrick might then have taken the name Barry and used it on his marriage cert...

This would mean looking for a death for JMurphy. do you have any firther name/dates for us.

Diddy

Hello
Thanks for replying.

Yeah that was my train of thought.

Patrick used the surname Barry on his marriage cert and also his armed forces papers. His visa is in the name of Murphy. From a legal point of view I wasn't sure if you could use Barry on your marriage cert or to enter the army as you'd need to supply your birth cert. Is that right?

I do know that when Patrick died there were issues with registering the death and arranging the funeral because no one new his birth name was Murphy.

I think I've found my ggrandparents on the census and now have their ages at 1911 so this will help in finding their birth/marriage/death certs. So hopefully I can piece it all together. It'll just be really interesting to find out some more information about them.

Thanks again for replying and if you have any nuggets of information to help my search please do let me know.

HI Cat

missed a bit ....usually do !  there was another sibling named Annie Furlong, she also moved up to Bray at some point.  There were also 3 other siblings but I havn't found out their names yet, I need to get a cop of the 1901 census to find out who they were.

Carol

Hi Carol

Thanks for the reply.

It was the name Furlong that got me going as my grandmother's sister married a Furlong and because the name Annastacia is quite unusual I thought they may be one of the same.

The info I have is Annastacia died in 1966 aged 59 and lived at 19 Antelope Road, Maudlintown, Wexford. So I'm reckoning it's not the same person. Murphy was her maiden name. I'm not sure how many brother's and sisters she had but she defo had a sister called Mary as Mary married my grandfather James Murphy.

Sorry if I've not been of much help. It really is needle in haystacks isn't it?

Hi

the family are

Patrick Furlong coachdriver born 1864
Mary Furlong 1866
Patrick Furlon 1894
Mary Furlong 1896
Christina Furlong 1895
Maggie  Furlong 1899
John Furlong 1900
Mark Furlong 1903
Charles Furlong 1905

My grandmother Annastacia Furlong was at this time in Dublin, her sister Molly was not living at home at the time of the 1911 census.  Havn't found them on the 1901, but will look when I go to Wexford in July.

Carol
Hi
Maybe a long shot but I saw your post while I was searching the Forum. We have an Annastacia Furlong in our family who was the sister of my grandmother. I don't have a lot of info a the minute as I've been focusing on finding information on my grandfather.

I'll have to give my parents a call to find out a bit more info.

Do you have any more info?

Wexford / Murphy - Barry's Wexford
« on: Monday 07 September 09 16:31 BST (UK)  »
Hello.

I came across this site as I've just started researching my family history.

I've got as far as the 1911 census and I think I've found my great grand parents and their children listed at Temperance Rowe although the address my dad remembers is Swan View. I couldn't find any listings at Swan View and the age and names of the children at Temperance Rowe is a match.

My grandfather was Patrick Murphy but we have grown up with Barry as our family name.

Patrick Murphy was born in 1898 and on his birth certificate his father is listed as James Murphy. However on Patrick's marriage certicate in 1923 his father is listed as James Barry.

I'm only just beginning my quest so any information or nudges in the right direction would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks
Cat
