Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Re: James Stubley
« on: Tuesday 17 September 19 22:14 BST (UK)  »
I have borrowed the Scredington fiche records, but they were in very poor condition when scanned and I have not been able to make out much at all.

I have James marrying Mary Leland, but I'm not sure where this may have come from because I did not keep precise records in my early research days and copied a lot of information from the LDS website without giving much thought to the provenance.

I have been researching Stubleys in eastern England for almost 20 years, but I have yet to connect everyone together. How are you linked to James and Mary?

Thanks very much for your help.  Especially the "know your place" resource, of which I had no knowledge before today. That is invaluable.

It is called Waters Lane now, and yes it is named after Betty Waters; but an old 19th century map showed it as being called Betty Waters Lane originally.

It is not helped by the nearby public house changing names. It is now The Mouse, but was The Royal Oak back then.

Betty Waters Lane is the street that I am interested in, and as early as possible really although I doubt there will be too much info on the 1841, so 1851 is my earliest sensible starting point.

The Common Room / Westbury On Trym Enumeration Districts

I am trying to find the names of people living in a certain property in Westbury On Trym Gloucestershire 150 or so years ago. However, as I do not know the surnames it becomes very difficult to search online.

Westbury parish seems to have covered a vast area of what is now the City of Bristol in the past and in 1881 there are 23 enumeration districts.

To save me trawling through every one trying to find the coverage of the relevant street, does anyone know which census district that the 'village' area of Westbury would have come under on the early census returns? This area would be anywhere within a couple of hundred yards radius of the parish church.

Rutland Lookup Requests / Re: Thomas Stubley of Egleton

One year on, and I am progressing very slowly. I discovered a burial of an Eleanor Stubley (w/o Thomas) in Uffington, Lincs (which is about 1/2 mile from Rutland county boundary) on 28th Dec 1760.

This would have left Thomas on his own with five children aged under 10 years old. My theory is that it is this Thomas who re-married in Aug 1761 at Empingham, Rutland to Hannah Corby.

US Completed Requests / Re: Ernest Bennett and Lillian Carr

According to the FreeBMD marriage index, Ernest Bennett and Lilian Carr married Jan-Feb-Mar 1913 in Rotherham.  I see a family tree that gives the location of the marriage as Wath Parish Church.  Perhaps the person typed in Wath and accidentally clicked on Wetzel, West Virginia.

That appears to be Ernest Blaistock Bennett b 1888 in Yorkshire. I think that some wires have been seriously crossed here.

Thanks for that, I will check. I have emailed them to ask where this came from, but so far they have not replied.

I wonder if anyone can help me with a marriage that may have taken place between Ernest Bennett and Lillian Carr on 24 Mar 1913 at the Church in Wetzel, West Virginia.

I am interested in the groom's details such as age, birthplace, parents, etc - if any of those are recorded.

According to one source that I have been in touch with, this is my great uncle Ernest Bennett who was always supposed to be the quiet single person who never left Lincolnshire, England all his life.

Our cosy family history will be thrown into severe disarray, if any of this is true.
