Hello csquare55,

My great grandfather was John Abraham Waterman , born 1853 in Bromlely by Bow, his father was Charles Page Waterman, born 1818 in Ingatestone. He was the illegitimate son of Jane Waterman and James Fordham . Jane Waterman was born in Ingatestone in 1797, parents Joseph Waterman and Susanna, 4th great grand parents. I cannot find a marriage for them, but both are buried in Ingatestone.

I think his parents were Joseph Waterman and Rebecca of Hatfield Broad Oak, but cannot find a baptism for Joseph Waterman, 4th great grand parent to prove this. Joseph Rebecca Abraham and William seem to be family names  that go back to Watermans of Hatfield Broad Oak, again not clear proof.

I am not sure where William Waterman and Mary Ann Burwood fit in the Waterman tree

My Waterman line lived in Bow, Poplar and on Isle of Dogs, but John Abram Waterman, eventually moved back to Essex, living in several places, and finally living in Maldon as police inspector.

Not sure how helpful this is for you

 Hello  mshrmh
Thanks for your help. I think Jane Hammond could be  the missing Jenney  Hammond. I wonder if she was known as Janey which may explain the spelling although spelling was different  in the 18th century. From this I may be able to go back a little further.

I will also try the Cheshire project  as I have different  branches of my family such as Higgenbotham in the Macclesfield area and it could fill in some gaps.

Regards  WatermanEssex

I would appreciate some help finding the christening of Jenny Hammond so that I can find her parents who possibly lived in Rainow

Jenny  married John Ridgway on 17th April 1787 in Prestbury. He was a blacksmith from Butley
and she was from Rainow from  according to Cheshire Register of Marriages and IGI entries.

Thanks Nell. That could be the right one and I will keep looking for Thomas Mundy.

Is Mundy a common surname in Hampshire? There do seem quite a lot of Mundys with a variety of spellings when you search.

Thanks for your help

Thank you hanes teulu.
I think there is a connection between James and Barnabas but not sure what it is. Hainsworth was not a common name in Essex and was mainly found in Yorkshire I think at that time

Thanks Diblet.
That could be the person I am looking for. On the birth certificate of her daughter Eliza Hainsworth,my great grandmother, she is named as Elizabeth Eliza Marshall.

Still hunting for the marriage of  James Hainsworth and Elizabeth Marshall about 1840.
