Lancashire / James family of Farnworth/Bolton/Leigh
« on: Sunday 27 September 09 18:23 BST (UK)  »
I am interested in contacting any relatives of my great-grandmother Ruth James, formerly Hughes.
Ruth was born in Ruabon, Denbighshire in 1868.  She married William James at Seaham Harbour in
1897  where their son Thomas was born.   The last known address on the 1911 Census is at 10 Lomax
Fold, Farnworth, Lancs.  At this address were: Sarah Ann (17), Elizabeth (15) Naomi (8) and Nelly Hughes
their adopted daughter.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for replying.  Yes, this is the same Andrew Armstrong who returned to Dalston,
but he only married in Dalston, which was the parish of his wife, Isabella Sanderson.
They returned to the Crosscanonby parish immediately after their marriage and their first
son Charles was born in Bridekirk (1802)and the following two, John & William (1803/4)
in Papcastle, before they returned to Dalston around 1805.     I have searched most of
the parish registers for this side of Cumberland at the Carlisle Family History Centre.
Andrew died in 1829, aged 56, which makes his birthdate 1773.   I noted, from the
information you gave me  before regarding the Andrew Armstrong from Dean,  that there is
a gap between the birthdates of his daughters Ann (1771) and Jane (1774).   I know that
there are often gaps in parish records where baptisms etc. have not  been recorded for
various reasons.  The names of his other children, born in Dalston, are the same as those
of this Andrew's (Dean) children.    George Wright, was born in Dearham, which makes me explore
the idea that they were friends and there is a possibility Andrew may have witnessed
Georges marriage.  I am trying to look at this from different angles as I have tried all the obvious
ones without success.

Cumberland Lookup Requests / Witness to the marriage of George Wright and Mary Aikin.
« on: Saturday 26 September 09 18:50 BST (UK)  »

I am trying to pin down the birthplace of my ggg-grandfather Andrew Armstrong and would like to request a look-up for the witnesses to the marriage of George Wright and Mary Aiken at Crosscanonby parish church on 17th August 1799.   George was the witness to Andrew's marriage in 1801 and I am hoping that if Andrew was witness to George's marriage it would give me some link.  George was born in the parish of Crosscanonby and my ggg-grandfather stated this as his parish on his marriage .  A bit of a long shot I know, but I am up against that proverbial brick wall.  Any information on George Wright would be welcome.

Ireland / Re: George Morrow/Ellen Robinson

Hi,

Thank for your quick reply to my post.   I will print this our and keep it for future reference.   I was thinking of looking at earlier census in Ireland for their parents, James Morrow and Hugh Robinson.  Do you know what the earliest census for Ireland was?

Hi ,

Thank you for taking the time to reply.  All of George and Ellen's children were born in Birmingham    Staffordforshire and Liverpool.   I have assumed that they met in England.

Ireland / George Morrow/Ellen Robinson
« on: Sunday 06 September 09 16:05 BST (UK)  »
Both my gg-grandparents. George Morrow and Ellen Robinson were born in Ireland, and came to England between 1840 and 1844.     Their marriage certificate (1st August 1844,St. Phillips Church, Birmingham) notes George as a police office, father James Morrow (labourer) .   I estimate that George would have been born around 1820 as he was noted "of full age" at the time of his marriage.  Ellen's father was Hugh Robinson, also a labourer.  As they named their first daughter Mary, I am assuming that was the name of George's mother.  They were Irish protestants.    The census (1851-1881 notes then only as being born  in Ireland, no city or town. I would like to hear from anyone researching these names, or has any other relevent information.

Cumberland Lookup Requests / Re: Armstrong. Parish Registers of Dean, Cumberland
« on: Sunday 06 September 09 12:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi Geoff,

Many thanks for taking the time to reply.    Andrew A.  noted his parish as Crosscanonby when he married Isabella Sanderson at Dalston Parish church in 1801, but must have returned to his own parish because his first son Charles was born in Bridekirk and following two sons John and William in Papcastle.    My gg-grandfather David, fourth son, was born in Dalston and following children; Andrew, George, Mary Ann,Jane and Isaac all born in Unthank, Dalston. where the family remained.  Andrew  died in 1829. I have researched this family for many years and have just had a article published in the Cumbria Family History Newsletter (Feb.2009) .  I have looked at the parish records for Bridekirk/Papcastle/Crosscanonby and also the Cockermouth BT's without success, and so have turned my interest towards the outlying parishes.   Although I have hit the proverbial brick wall with Andrew's birth record, I do have a gut feeling that this family in the Dean parish are close to my Armstrong family.      As I live in Anglesey, it is very difficult to visit Cumbria and my local LDS church has ceased to provide a FHC, so I am grasping at straws and am
grateful for any help.

regards
