United States of America / Re: On-line ordering of death certificates
« on: Friday 04 September 09 21:55 BST (UK)  »
I've had this problem with ordering stuff from other countries.  It's so frustrating. That check will cost you a fortune so you have to use a card...even a debit card.   Forget ancestry.  I'm in the US and recently had to get a replacement copy of my own birth certificate.  I used http://www.vitalchek.com/ .  But I can't remember if I paid with a credit card or what. I must have used a credit card.  You'll have to contact them and see.  Otherwise, you might consider opening a PayPal account (which will take a few days to verify your bank account) and then find someone in PA you can pay via that method to go get it.  Or just contact the PA Records division (or whoever holds the records directly).  Money is money.

When is comes to addresses just try to stuff it in some field that doesn't edit it and say you've made an incorrect entry. We American fail to consider other countries use different forms of addressing.  Duh.   Or, you could email the people at the PA Records place and ask them what to do.  The last place to seek help is from ancestry.com.....they simply have no interest in helping customers do anything other than getting their money.

Europe / Re: Possible German or Eastern Europe Jewish ancestors

If they were German consider looking under the surname Holz...with is German for Wood.  Also, when it relates to burial (if the information is known) all Jews must be buried before sundown on the day of death (unless there's some extreme extenuating circumstance).

Europe / Re: searching for Cavaliero in Crete, Greece

I used to live there but don't speak Greek.  Contact someone in the capital, Heraklion, to ask for help.  Start with the History Museum and don't worry about writing in English...they'll figure it out:

Europe / Re: moldenhauer

Moldenhauer is a very unusual name (even in Germany).  Since you're sort of at a dead end with her except for that marriage record to a Copestake in 1948, you really should get a copy of her marriage ceritificate and see what it says.  Furthermore, because of the unique surname I think it would be helpful to search Moldenhauers in general to see where they came from in Germany.  A dozen or so ended up in the US and the likelihood that they are connected due to the unusual surname means they could be  connected.  There's a Moldenhauer in the old East of Germany just NW of Berlin...which would have been a good reason for Inga to leave before or during WWII.

Just a thought to knock down a brick wall!
