United States of America / NY Roche Court of Chancery
« on: Monday 07 June 10 23:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi there I am hoping someone may be able to help
I have a Katherine Roach who married George Munns NY Presbyterian church jan 1805.

She came to NY with her brother to claim an inheritance of properties left by thier paternal uncle. However on their way their ship was captured by the French as a result the inheritance was placed in the court of chancery. They did eventually claim the property, Katherine got married and returned home to Kinsale co Cork Ireland.

Maybe the marriage records would give the brothers name as a witness and it is possible he stayed in NY.
Or the court of chancery records might give the uncles name as I have no Idea where to start looking for his will.

any ideas or help would be wonderful as most of the info I have comes from a family diary.

Thank you Tamsin

Cork / Roche of Kinsale newspaper archives
« on: Monday 07 June 10 23:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi there, I am searching for the Roche family of Kinsale around 1800.

I have a Katherin Roche with sisters Mary and Margaret and an unknown brother.
Katherin married George Munns in NY in 1805 aged at least 18.

I am hoping there may be something in Cork newspapers b4 1805 about them
as according to family diary Katherin and unknown brother were left extensive property in America by a paternal uncle. They set out for NY but the ship they were on was captured by the French. As they spoke fluent French they were kept aboard ship and treated well untill the ship was recaptured and they returned to Ireland.  However as they were feared dead due to not being found with the other passengers by the time they eventually made it to NY  the property had been placed in Court of Chancery. But they did get some of the inheritance Katherin got married and returned home to Kinsale.

Hopefully such an unusuall story would have been reported in the papers like the Mercantile or Examiner.

Any information on the Roche family of Kinsale at the time would be most helpfull.

Thank you
Tamsin

he was the brother of Frederick De Veil Williams rector of Wishford 1823-63
according to family diary  Frances was born 25/9/1814, census gives birthplace as Wishford.
Unable to find maiden name and baptism. She was possibly an illegitimate daughter of George III.

Kent / Buckley Canterbury & Harbledown
« on: Thursday 03 September 09 23:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi Can anyone help.I am looking for a George Buckley, Harbledown jeweller (1791-1845) He had  a wife Sarah and six daughters. Supposedly his father had numerous properties built in Canterbury and Harbledown c. 1800's.  Georges will mentions his aunt Elizabeth Foreman of Monks Horton (in 1844) and her three daughters.
Anyone know where I may be able to find info on his marriage and parents (IGI drawn a blank).
