Lancashire / Re: Adelphi Convent School, Salford

I was at Adelphi from 1967 to 1974 and was sent home on at least two occasions due to fog.  So the fog rule was far from being a myth in those days.  It wasn't quite the treat I hoped for as on both occasions I had to walk home to Swinton as buses were either not running at all or on a reduced service.   :)

Yes that was my first reaction - it must be BEF.  But it does look like BBF and also I thought the BEF landed at the start of the war, whereas this chap has these initials next to the period at the end of his time in army from 27th August to 28th December 1918.

I wonder if anyone can tell me the meaning of BBF when written on my ancestor's war service records.  It was on the document which records where he was posted.  BBF was for a four month period at the end of 1918.

Many thanks.

Hi.  I wonder if anyone has used the LDS Family History Centre in Birkenhead, Merseyside?  It appears they may have some records on fiche that I would like to consult regarding infantry regiments in the mid 1800s.

I wonder if anyone has historical information on this area/address which I know no longer exists.  I have tried without much success to find a detailed map going back to the 1870's.   I have relatives living there in 1871, employed as miners.

Many thanks.

Thanks so much for all your help.  :) :) :)

My husband thinks I am nuts chasing this particular ancestor, but as I said it just niggles me!

Thanks Barbara H for that marriage info.  And to iluleah for the census for John Cadman and the electoral roll info and Gibel for the Directories suggestion.

Its always useful to pick someone's brains on this site!

Cheers
