World War Two / Re: Cant find my Pathfinder cousin anywhere
« on: Sunday 03 February 19 18:02 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you Shaun, Think I found him on RAF Cranwell site but it didn't give much info.
Thank you tho looks like that's him in the London Gazette, ties in a little bit with what I know.  Do you think that no. is a service no.That is me on Ancestry. His son who I have just made contact with, never knew much about the Carters side, and unfortunately any papers he had from his father has ben lost or thrown out. I cringed when I heard that. He said his father never spoke about the war, like lots of others.

World War Two / Cant find my Pathfinder cousin anywhere
« on: Sunday 03 February 19 17:01 GMT (UK)  »
Why cant I find any mention of my cousin Thomas Desmond Carter in all the RAF sites I've looked at.?  I understand if I want records I must go thro the Gov web site. But thought id find something about him. I know he was in the Pathfinders he was either a pilot officer or a flying officer. I think he was in the air force from around 1942-1945 or 1951. He did his training in Canada.
Looked at some info and thought he was in bomber command but family talk was he flew spitfires or mosquitos, i'm led to believe these were fighter command. I have no idea of his squadron. Any help please. Thomas Desmond Carter {Nick}. born 1922circa Wales

Hi Laurie, I've looked at parish registers, can't find no of graves, but Thomas was born in 1846 died in 1890 as you said. And Mary Ann was born in 1877 and died in 1892 age 15. Both were from Tylorstown. Rhondda. Will try and find out if any records and where they are

Family History Beginners Board / Birth certificate which one?
« on: Wednesday 13 April 16 15:35 BST (UK)  »
I want o buy a birth certificate of one of my ancestors, there are two possible, I definitely think that one of them is the one I need, but which one. Their names match the registration area match, one is 4q 1895 the other is 2q 1896. Is there any way I can decide which one to buy,? at nearly £10 each I don't want to buy the wrong one, or is that the only way? Thanks Ruchca

Hello, The Globe is now called the Maritime Arms. It is on High Street which is in the area called "The Graig"  it is under the railway bridge up the Graig Hill about 200 Metres on the left. It is opposite the entrance to Dewi Sant Hospital. I believe it is still open tho there is a for sale sign outside.   :)

At last, following the enumerator's schedules in your 1901 census, Found it. It's now called the Maritime Inn (but it was for sale in 2009).

Thanks very much for the 1901 census help Dave!
