Cornwall / Re: Huguenots in Cornwall ??
« on: Thursday 17 January 13 13:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I have a similar help request. I have just discovered a Huguenot connection in my tree, the surname is Gruzelier. The actual link is Anne Gruzelier born in Madron, Cornwall in 1701 to parents Jean Gruzelier (b1670) & Magdalene Bilbau (b1680). That is the only information that I have & researching a Huguenot line is a new venture for me so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi, I also have a similar help request. My Huguenot surname is Gruzelier & they settled in Cornwall in the latter part of the 1600's. Anne Gruzelier was born in Madron, Cornwall in 1701 to parents Jean Gruzelier (b1670) & Magdalene Bilbau (b1680). That is the only information I have & researching Huguenot genealogy is a new venture for me, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, At the moment without any certificates to prove who the mother was I am assuming it was Sarah, even though they didn't marry till later.

Hi,
James was baptised on 31st Jan 1819 in West Alvington, he married Mary Ann Murch (born 1821 in West Alvington) on 4th November 1839 also in West Alvington.
Mary died in July 1841 & James remarried in 1848 to Sarah - whose surname I haven't worked out yet, it was either Eveleigh or Longmead (I favour Longmead as that Sarah was Sarah Emma & James & Sarah'a first daughter was called Emma, but I will have to get the certificate to prove it), this marriage took place in Plymouth, Devon. On the 1841 census Mary is listed as 15 years old, she was in fact 18 but on that particular census the age should have been rounded down to the nearest five years for those aged 15 or over but in some cases the actual age was recorded. That explains why she was listed as being only 15..... not a scandal after all !!!! James died in 1892 in Plymouth, Devon.
