Armed Forces / Re: Malta
« on: Friday 17 June 11 18:53 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find out whether my great grandfather's wife and children accompanied him to Malta. He was there for less than a year from 1898-1899.
He was RAMC, a Private.   His Name: John Martin Wheeler, Wife: Margaret Wheeler, Children: Elizabeth, William and Margaret.

Any help or general info on where an army soldier's family would have been during his oversease service is greatly appreciated. (I'm really trying to narrow down the disappearance of his wife: Margaret.  Not sure if she disapppeared when they lived in Belfast, or if she went to Malta with him.)

Thanks in advance!

Antrim / Re: Elizabeth Carroll birth look up please

Elizabeth Carroll was the sister of Kathleen and Margaret Carroll. She (Elizabeth) married a man in Dublin, named William Bailey. Her sister Kathleen married a man named William Harrison, who was Britich Army RAMC/AHC. I canot find a trace of her either, after marriage. William harrison got out of the army in 1895 (I have his military record), but no trace of him after that. Their other sister Margaret Carroll married another man in the RAMC/AHC. (John Martin Wheeler). I know the father's name of all three women was Michael Carroll, and they would have all been born in the 1864-1869 range. I have been unsuccessful in trackinf down the mother's name. HELP! :)

Right now, I am left with mysteries of what happened to Margaret Carroll Wheeler after 1897 (when her last child was born) and what happened to her sisters.

The trouble is, the man she married (William Wheeler) was in the British Army Medical Corps, and so I haven't been able to track anything down that way -
I'm really at a road block with them!

We have nothing but her name - and that's about all her own children had. I don't even know what she looked like. My grandmother spent her life looking for records of her, but to no avail. I hope that in the electronic age something may surface. Her husband William was born in 1866 and was English, but I don't even know if they were the same age. One rumor was that she entered a convent when my grandmother was only six months old.

I am having trouble finding an Elizabeth Carroll - who may or may not be the same person. I don't know what year she was born, but she married a William Wheeler who was a British Medical Officer. They had three children and I don't know what became of her after 1897. The two older children were raised in  a Catholic orphanage in Canada, and the youngest child was raised by William's mother as a protestant in England. I have no idea what ever became of Elizabeth Carroll (Wheeler).
