Hi Stickybeek, I am descended Richard Gibbons who was my 2 x great grandfather. Initially Richard was a ropespinner, as was his father Thomas. He married Ann Bennett at Walingford, Berkshire in 1816. His fahter-in-law Benjamin Bennett was a malster in both Berkshire and Bucks so I was told. Richard was a ropespinner,  malster, and a brewer. He had retired by 1861. Ann died 1856. Richard died 1869. Both died in Berkshire. The brewery was taken on by Richard's eldest son Edward Frederick. He died of consumption in 1862. Second son Charles Edmund then became the brewer. I only know of one pub, the  Waterman's Arms owned by Richard. I note Sydney James Gibbons is somehow connected with this. By 1875, Richard's malthouse had become a chair factory. I do not know how George Wethered's wife Elizabeth is connected to our family, but I do know the Mary Anne Wethered nee Bell who was visiting  Thomas & Sarah on the night of the 1851 Census was Sarah's sister. Pretty rambling I am sorry. Perhaps it may be best to talk off line.
Cheers

I am researching Thomas Bell Gibbons (born Marlow around 1818).  He married Hannah Robinson (born around 1817 in Hambleden, Bucks).  They emigrated to Australia around 1851.
Any help on how I can get started would be appreciated.

Hi joanscottallen
I have found the baptism of Edith Elizabeth, only daughter of Thomas B. and Hannah. The birth of their first son in Oct 1851 on board the 'Resolute', the death of Thomas B. Gibbons brother aboard the Norfolk, on the voyage to Australia, and Dyfney James also died in Australia, and if you have not already found this information, I would like to share it with you.
Cheers

Hi Dale,

I would be interested in swapping information too. I do not know all that much, mainly my direct Australian line, but I am very interested to know and find out about other branches of the family who came out too.
My gggrandfather Richard married Ann Bennett at St Peters, Wallington Berkshire 1816.
They had five known children - Ellen M 1821-1906; Edward F 1824-1862; Charles E 1825; Emily L 1827-1906; Alfred B 1828-1905. Richard died age 78 at White Waltham in 1869.

How were you thinking of pursuing this. I am a little reticent about the use of the internet.  That shows my age I guess.

I have a brief contact with another descendant of John Thomas Gibbons, also living in Victoria.

Cheers
Doreen

I have only found all these entries for the Gibbons family of Great Marlow in the last few days.
I am descended from Richard Gibbons, Ropespinner, Maltster and Brewer of St Peter Street, Great Marlow
Richard was a brother to Thomas (coal merchant) St Peter St, and John (grocer) West St. and sister Elizabeth. Parents Thomas (b1744) and Sarah Crockett.

I am descended from Alfred Bennett Gibbons who migrated to Victoria, Australia in the 1850s.
I would like to make contact with you all
