Somtree,

Go to the National Archives of Australia website and open the Namesearch address.
Enter family name Ford - there are 424 Fords.
Refine with George - there ar 47 possiblilities of first or second name George.
The page will show name, POB (place of birth) and NOK (next of kin).

Trawl through these three pages and you will find a number approx. 5 or so that have given their place of birth as England.  You can open their service records and check to see if it there is any further info that might suggest it is your GF.

Just remembered that many chose to enlist under other names and aliases, so don't be put off by a first scroll through.

I don't know Sngland well enough to know if Bromley, Lingfield, Shapwick or other such names are within cooee of London.

Good hunting.

Regards,

Geoff

Thanks Sandra and JM,

I have been researching these guys for about 5 years and as you know you come on a gem or a new lead every now and again.  I am a newcomer to Rootschat from a Googel search of BR's name.
I am currently living and working in India but am due to return to AUS after July when I will do some searches of the news media as you suggest.  I know the State Libray in SYD has most of that on microfiche (is that the right spelling ??)

Regards,

gt

Hi Sandra,

Not the Hunter Valley, but Kangaroo Valley, a small village behind Nowra on the south cost of NSW.

Regards,

Geoff

Hi all,

No. 4581 Pte Benjamin Richardson may appear on the Kangaroo Valley War Memorial in the southern highlands of NSW Australia.  There are only 5 B. Richardson's on the Nominal Roll, and he is the only KIA.  There are no Albert (Bert) Richardson's that fit either.
I have no idea what took him into the Valley, but if it is him, he must have endeared himself to the townsfolk there as they included him on the memorial built September 1920 from public money.
It appears he may have gone there after he migrated to AUS in 1913 and then enlisted 1915 for a possible return to the Old Dart.
Has anyone found out anything more on him ?  I am researching servicemen from the Valley.

Regards,

Geoff
