Thank you for your comments.  I'm still wondering about the William/Ann versus George/Ann.

George C married Honorah on 14 Feb 1774 by license and parents consent - I haven't found a source for a copy of that license and don't know whether it would contain the names of the parents.  Any suggestions there would be most appreciated.?

But, I think you're right about George and Ann though.  So now the question starts to be who was the Ann that father George married.

Appreciate your help.

a George Corfield married Honorah Dorsett 14 Feb 1774 by licence and parents consent (not sure whether that means his/hers or both though) Stottesdon, Shropshire with witnesses Eliz Crump and Ann Dorsett.

I've found a candidate for Honorah's baptism but for George there seems to be three candidates in Stottesdon.

1755 George son of George and Ann baptized 3 Jan 1755
1759 Geo son of Wm and Ann baptized 5 Jun 1759
1762 Geo son of Cornelius and Eliz baptized 15 Aug 1762

For Honorah
1757 Honorah dau of Thos and Honorah baptized 11 Apr 1757

Any help/suggestions would be most helpful .

K.

Shropshire / Re: Shropshire parish registers now online at Find My Past
« on: Saturday 19 April 14 16:29 BST (UK)  »
That happened to me frequently yesterday.  I tried using the "download" button at the bottom right side and was able to view the image.  The normal download popup message asking to click on "open" or "save" appeared and then I could access the image.

Hope it works for you.

Technical Help / Re: Losing iGoogle
« on: Friday 11 October 13 16:28 BST (UK)  »
And ighome seems to work .  Initially I had an issue with password recognition but after changing it I was able to get both ig and ighome to understand that I wanted to access my gmail.
It is a pity that Google is moving away from supporting PC and laptop screens. Finding a one- screen replacement for ig will enable one to continue to see the "information world" at a glance.

I'm looking for more information on the birth of a Martin Roberts.  His father was John Roberts and Martin is said to have been born in Oct 1820 in La Fontaine(sp) Guernsey.  If anyone can help with a baptismal record, mother's name etc etc I'd appreciate it.  The family was subsequently in Jersey in 1823 where further children were baptized (This birth information I have).   Thank you.

Census and Resource Discussion / Re: Old family search seems to have gone now
« on: Saturday 23 June 12 17:38 BST (UK)  »
This might be of interest:  In response to an email to Family Search I received quite promptly the following as "helpful" hints at finding what used to be there.  In terms of IGI that database is hidden in the overall collections list (see a previous post for a link) as International Genealogical Index .  It is easy to miss as the Collections List is long, it includes some really interesting information, but it is there and can be accessed as a single entity.

Using the FamilySearch Website (20 June 2012)

Where to Find Features That Were on the Previous Version of the FamilySearch Website
The new version of the FamilySearch website still contains most of the resources that you used on the previous site. How you find them has changed.
The following table lists tasks that were commonly done on the previous version of the FamilySearch website. It also explains how to do them in the new site.
What You Could Do on the Previous Version of the FamilySearch Website
How to Do the Same Task on the Current Version of the FamilySearch Website

Search Ancestral File and the Pedigree Resource File
1.Click (FamilySearch Home).
2.Click Trees.
3.Enter the individual that you want to find.
Note: The search results indicate whether a record came from Ancestral File or the Pedigree Resource File.

Search the International Genealogical Index (IGI).
You can search the International Genealogical Index collection by an ancestor’s name. If you know it, you can also search by batch number, serial or sheet number, or film number.
a.Go to FamilySearch.org.
b.On the left side of the home page, click All Record Collections.
c.In the alphabetical list of collections, scroll down, and click International Genealogical Index (IGI).
d.Click the collection you want to search. Choose one of the following:
■Community Indexed IGI
■Community Contributed IGII (This collection is coming soon.)
e.In the Search boxes, enter the information you want to search by. Depending on the information that you know from the old IGI records, you can search by any of the following information:
■Names
■Event dates and locations (any event, birth, marriage, or death)
■Relationships (spouse or parents)
■Batch number
■Serial or sheet number
■Film number
Note: You may refine this search, as you would any search for historical records. Add more information to filter or narrow your search. For example, add an event date and place or a spouse or parent. Try a variety of search criteria. Enter a little information at a time.

f.Your search results will only show records from the IGI. If you do not find your record, search both IGI collections (the Community Indexed IGI and the Community Contributed IGI). Click .
2.Click Records.

Search the Vital Records Index for Mexico and Scandinavia.
1.Click (FamilySearch Home).
2.Under the heading Browse by Location, click the link for the appropriate area of the world.
3.In the filters that are on the left side of screen, click the appropriate place filters for Mexico or Scandinavia.
4.In the Category filters, click Birth, Marriage, and Death.
5.In your search results, click the collection of vital records that you want.

Use the Record Search Pilot.
The Record Search Pilot is no longer available. The record collections that were available in the Record Search pilot are available on FamilySearch.org.
1.Click (FamilySearch Home).
2.Click Records.
3.Enter the individual that you want to find.

Search Historical Books.
You cannot currently search the historical books directly. Instead, find the book in the Family History Library Catalog:
1.Click (FamilySearch Home).
2.Click Books.
3.Click Family History Books.

Search Family History Library Catalog.
1.Click (FamilySearch Home).
2.Click Catalog.
This version of the catalog is in beta testing. It does not yet have all of the features it needs. If you would like to use the previous version of the catalog, which does have all of the features, click previous verison.

Technical Help / Re: UK/USA computer
« on: Thursday 12 April 12 17:22 BST (UK)  »
Would agree with Nick on waiting to check out the community.  There are so many different options, bundling with telephone, TV etc and these deals are generally location specific.  Some areas (large or small) you may find competition.  Plus, if you happen to be renting, internet might be part of your rental agreement.  For free wifi check out Panera Bread or Starbucks.  The former has great food and free internet.

Technical Help / Re: UK/USA computer
« on: Sunday 08 April 12 15:11 BST (UK)  »
My computer works fine in both the USA and UK. The transformer covers both the US and UK voltage and cycle rate.  Since it has a built in 110V plug I use a simple 2 pin to 3 pin adapter (WH Smith) when using in the UK.  Laptops tend to be cheaper in the US and one can select UK English if necessary, though I find updating spell check for common words to be efficient.  Internet doesn't seem to be a problem anywhere.

Another brand to consider would be HP/Compac though most brands are available either place.

Just checked FreeBMD and there is a postem to the John Mayes entry dated 9/8/2008 referencing a copy of the marriage certificate for John and a Mary Gynn.  Married 4 Feb 1862, Sawtry, Huntingdonshire No 175.
