I would like to request a look-up in the Ripon Parish Registers for the marriage of my ancestors Robert Edson and Ada (maiden name unknown), working backwards from 1822, also for their baptisms around 1792-1800 and those of any siblings as well as any children before 1823 (they were in York by that time), and marriages and baptisms etc of their parents if applicable and if time permits. I am also interested in finding a link between Robert Edson and two other Edsons listed on the 1851 census as born in Ripon who shared his occupation (Saddle Tree Maker), James Edson born c. 1802 (possibly a brother or cousin?) and Samuel Edson born c. 1775 (married to Judy, possibly parents of either Robert or James or both). Thank you very much in advance to anyone who is able to help with this.

Thank you. Well I have managed to make further progress by finding a marriage between a George Scott (not William) & a Phoebe Treasure in 1892,  although this took place in Somerset not Gloucestershire - and in a mining area, as I soon discovered, which fits in nicely. I also found Phoebe Treasure on each census year (not difficult with an unusual name like that) and traced her family pretty well with the IGI combined with census returns, although George Scott remains a bit of a mystery until the marriage certificate arrives, as he had died before 1901 and Phoebe had already remarried but her sons William & George Scott (aged 11 and 6 - the correct age for george Henry) appear with her and her 2nd husband at Frenchmoor, Hampshire on the 1901 census (so the move to Stroud clearly took place later on). George's birthplace is shown as Bath, which has allowed me to order his birth certificate, as well as his mother's and his parents' marriage certificate.

THank you that would be a big help if you have the time to take a quick look - even if all that it does is rule out those parishes it is still a start.George Henry Scott was born about 1895, not sure about his brother William E. Scott's DOB (though he was married by 1935) - there was one born 1908 in Stroud district but perhaps not the right one. George's father was William Scott and he was a collier (though of course might have done other jobs as well). William had died by 1920. Not much to go on I'm afraid but anything that you are able to check would be a huge help. Thank you again.

Thanks. Yes, the brother's marriage certificate is another possibilty I suppose. I am also considering paying a researcher to look up George's WWI records (if they have survived) as I am not able to get to the PRO in the near future. Thank you for the info about mining in Gloucestershire; that's useful to know. I did find a George Scott in Bristol in 1901, but he was a few years too old (unless of course the ages on George Henry Scott's marriage and death certificates are incorrect). I don't think that his father was a collier either. William Jr seems to have stayed in Stroud, as the funeral report for George (1935) said that his brother had travelled from Stroud. I found a possible birth certificate reference for 1908 (which would make William about 13 years younger than George) for William with a matching death certificate reference, and if this is the correct one he was still living in Gloucestershire when he died.
