Hi grey seagull,
thanks for your prompt reply, wow.. am amazed..so we are kind of related! I have Mary Jane's birth certificate dated 1861, Also have photos of her so when I figure out how to put them on here will do so. Her daughter was called Margaret Isabel Flemming and is my g gran, who I remember clearly as a  child. You are right they did end up in Glasgow, Margaret in Clydebank , but when her daughter my gran moved to England so did she. Ironically they moved back to Forfar where their family were from as my gran bought Lunan House which over looks old red castle ..how strange...spent many happy childhood holidays there. Which grandchild of Mary's did you meet..will probably know of them. Mary Jane had 6 girls and 1 boy called James who was injured in the 1st world war and ended up in America, but later died. Would love to know more of your info..still trying to get to grips with all this am a pure novice.

Hi,

I have a William Ferrier b. 25/7/1794 in Kinnell, Forfar whose father was also William which might fit in with your william b 1760s.  The father was listed as a dyker - later descendants were stonemasons - and his wife was Catherine Bowen.  Alexander is also one of the names which appears with regularity in the descendants.

Any possibility of a link?

Hello, am new to this..I have a gggg grandfather called William Ferrier born 1804 Forfar Scotland, married to elspeth gibb 1823, their son was Alexander carey ferrier b.1833 married to Elizabeth Dear, as far as i know they had two children, my gg grandmother Mary Jane Ferrier b.1861 at old red castle, lunan bay, and Alexander Cairey Ferrier. Mary Jane married James flemming in 1891. That's as far as I can go, would lve to hear from anyone who can tell me more. Am intrigued by old red castle birth as I have been there and it has been in ruins for a long time.. wondered if it was actually somewhere else.
