Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: James 'something' Davie

Yes. Jen, I do think they were all from the Glenisla area. The mother is not mentioned on James Jnr's birth record but the marriage of a James and Elizabeth Grant, which fits timewise, is recorded.

Cheers
Dave

Many thanks, Jen.

FYI, here is what I have penciled in for James Robb's forebears. Not proven yet, of course.

His parents James Rob or Robb and Elizabeth Grant

His grandparents Thomas Rob or Robb and wife unknown.

Cheers
Dave

Hello Jen

Just read your posting below and would be interested to know if you have further info on Ann Robb's ancestors.

It would appear that her father James, while married to Janet Clark, had a liaison with an Ann Hall in 1824 that yielded a son, Thomas Robb. (Ann Hall later married a John Porter).

Thomas married Susan Howe and had 3 children before she died. He remarried to Christian Lunnan and they had 5 children, the first of whom, Jessie, later immigrated to Australia. She was my Great Grandmother.

I am trying to go back past James and have some information which has not yet been proven so just thought I'd check to see if you had followed that line back further.

Cheers from Downunder
Dave

A big thank you to everyone who helped me with this...I thought maybe you'd be interested to know how James 'something' Davie fits into my story...it's taken a while to get to this point and I'm still very curious as to how Robert ends up a spirt merchant but that's for another time....
Jen

Ann Robb was born in the parish of Glenisla in1821 to James Robb and Janet Clark.  On the 1841 census Ann is working for David and Catherine Davie, as a farm servant, at West Brae in the parish of Airlie.

Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Census - Crewkerne - Sarah PRINCE
« on: Sunday 30 October 11 10:25 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks Isobel and Tina.

Unfortunately, Sarah died before the 1851 Census but at least I now know she is reported to be from Somerset. I have not been able to establish a maiden name for her as I can't find a marriage if there was one.

Jane was a daughter.

Thanks again
Dave

Somerset Lookup Requests / 1841 Census - Crewkerne - Sarah PRINCE
« on: Thursday 27 October 11 11:39 BST (UK)  »
If the 1841 Census lists where a person was born, could someone please look up Sarah Prince aged about 75 in Crewkerne (possibly Roundham), please.

I would like to know where she was born please as I have been unable to locate her marriage to James Prince about 1785. They may have married where she came from. James won't be in the Census as he died before.

Many thanks
David Prince

Hello Margaret,

Sorry for taking so long to reply but have been away. Once again, many thanks for all the research you have done for me on the Bryant's/Rendles. It is much appreciated.

I don't think anyone in that Jonathon's family ever used the name Bryant, though. Our Henry married in 1852 in Haselbury Plucknett as Henry Bryant.

It would be interesting to see if the father is mentioned in his marriage records. I know you have access only to marriages up to 1841 and it seems that's what the Somerset Heritage Centre has also. Would these later records be available at the Haselbury Church do you think. I will be visiting the church next month and maybe I should email ahead to see if I can view any records there.

Anyway, thanks again.

Cheers
David

Thanks again, Margaret.

The information is very much appreciated.

I am now looking into the possibility that Hannah baptized May 7, 1826 was at the time entered incorrectly and should have been our missing Henry.

We cannot find any other trace of a Hannah apart from the baptism.

Thanks for your assistance, Margaret.

Many, many thanks for the lookups, Margaret.

There is one other child who is reported to have belonged to George and Caroline. His name was Henry BRYANT (Rendle/Randell/Raindle???) purported to be born abt 1826. Would it be possible to have a quick look for his baptism, please.

He married Ann MITCHELL, I believe in Haselbury Plucknett, on  3 July 1852.

I am perplexed as to the reason the children were baptised some as BRYANT and some as a variation of RENDLE. The same Curate officiated at all baptisms (and marriage). Surely they would have been fairly well known in a small town like Haselbury Plucknett.

We will be visiting H.P. in early May during our trip to the UK.

Cheers and thanks again
