I doubt whether I would ever have solved this without your help.

On the positive side, I have now become quite an expert on the Paignton area!

Much appreciated

Devon / King's Ash - Paignton?
« on: Friday 21 February 20 20:21 GMT (UK)  »
One of my interests gave King's Ash, Devonshire, as her birthplace in 1851. The only reference I can find for King's Ash in Devon is in Paignton.  Apparently there was once a Pontin's holiday camp there and prior that, an internee camp during the war.  Apart from King's Ash Road and King's Ash Academy, I can find nothing further.

Can anyone help with the history of King's Ash and advise what church would have been used by the residents?

Tks

Many thanks to Groom and Greensleeves for your replies.  I had not considered Chromebooks as, to be honest, I didn't fully appreciate the benefits. The low cost is very impressive.

I'm going to read up on them now, look at online reviews then maybe check out the display stock in Currys.

All looking rather good!

After many years of faithful service, old Tosh's life is sadly coming to an end.  Originally purchased from a shopping channel, it came preloaded with all essential software and an excellent user's manual that was easy to understand.  It did everything I needed it to do and has been more than adequate for general home use and family history research. I won't be playing games, cds, dvds etc.

Trying to find a replacement is becoming a headache - there is now so much choice, I can't work out what would be best for me.  Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Francis Hollace Babb
« on: Friday 23 August 19 20:51 BST (UK)  »
Tks to everyone for your kind assistance with the mysterious Babbs.  The quality and promptness of your replies has been overwhelming and I am so grateful.

Everyone of you has found at least one new piece of information. Quick checks I have done today, show everything to be relevant to Elizabeth Babb, her bigamous relationships and brood of children with ever changing names and birthplaces.

A new marriage has been discovered, a possible closer link with the Mundy family - why would Lizzy give her son exactly the same first names as her sister Kathleen? - and it seems likely that Elizabeth was also using her mother's surname Jewell.

Brilliant!!!

Hi
Just come across this chap whilst looking for Elizabeth Leatherby nee Babb in 1871 and 1881 census.

Has anything further come to light with regard to Francis's birth/parentage? Also drawn a blank with the name "Hollace".  I thought it might have been Hollis or Horace but no luck with either.  Hoped this would link to a particular region and some further clues.

tks

Technical Help / Cursor erratic, text jumping on Toshiba lap-top, Windows 7
« on: Saturday 06 October 18 17:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi

After a recent hard drive replacement, cursor has become erratic, jumping around, opening new pages, and often disappearing.  Text appears elsewhere in the document. Some symbols appear different to what they should be. This happens when typing in word, emails, and passwords but in particular, spreadsheets where the tab button often freezes.

I have found a CNET forum for laptops which recommends a TouchFreeze download but this site's domain is now for sale and the forum is over 2 years old.

Some other advice found suggests disabling the touchpad but this did not help.  I have also tried using a mouse but this did not help either.

Any ideas?
