Morning Lakeland.   I was very interested to see your post . According to what records I hold, My great Uncle Richard( my fathers Uncle, who was always called "Uncle Dick ")  lived at 39,Chaple Street ,Whitehaven, before moving to 51,Roper Street and was stilll there ,, as afar as I know .working as a barber in 1939.   Dick had the following siblings:Isabella Smith  (my Grandmother) b1882 -died1950  .Elizabeth Douglas Smithb? -   William Lambert Smith b1883 and Joseph Smith b1885.  His mother was Ellenor Douglas b.1850 and father Isaac  Smith 1859-1918  --- Isaac was born in Arlecden and also resided in Asby.Isaacs father was Richard Smith 1826-1873 and mother Jane Lamomby 1828-1892 They had 14 children!!!His father was Thomas Smith 1804-1889.Mother was Isabella 1806-1884.His father was Thomas Smith who married Mary Singleton b.1783.They had 9 kids (no further details). I would love to know if Uncle Dick married and what is your connection with all this.I presume that Dick must have died in the 50s??   Did you stay in Roper street recently and how did you know the Smith family? We may well be related!!Hope to here from you. Best wishes.  Picamara.

Hi Alambic. My father served in the RAMC during the war and as far as I can establish, he served in Poona and Kohima. I believe he was in Poona from 1942 until 1945. He was mentioned in depatches and I believe he was awarded the Burma Star. He never really talked about the war and I would be extremely grateful to  receive any info as regards his days in India. His name was James"Jimmy "Comrie and he was born 1917 in West Cumbria and died in 1990 . Best wishes and good luck!!    Picamarra.

Stirlingshire / The Comries of Kilsyth
« on: Sunday 18 September 11 16:36 BST (UK)  »
Hello. It is some time now since I posted any requests, but I am still researching into my grandfathers lineage and his life in Kilsyth.  ( See  previous posts on Comrie family) After having watched Alan Carrr on "Who do you think you are?" the other night , I did not realise that most pits at the turn of the last century had football teams to represent their respective mines. I have been told that the Comrie family ,who lived at 40,Newtown Street, Kilsyth, were quite sporty and  had quite a few players in the local pits team.  Can anybody please assist me in possibly identifying any of the players as being my relatives???  Many thanks.  Picamarra.

Hi Bleckie.

Back in April you kindly searched the Muthill register for several of my Comrie anscestors. I had no luck unfortunately.   Could you please tell me now, are there any Comries recorded in the Register?  Best wishes.   Picamarra.

Hi Angela.

Our line comes down from Peter the shoemakers (6th May 1781 - died 1867) second wife Janet Finlayson
One of their sons   was Peter (1824-1874 ),also a shoemaker later to become a sanitary inspector. He was my gggrandfather. I also hold no further info on Margaret McInnes I am afraid.   We are however long lost relations(I think!!!), so please to meet you!!  I suggest you contact "Anderson" in Oz who is a closer relative than ourselves. He can be seen on this post page 1.     Best wishes.    picamarra.
