Antrim / Henry Cunningham and Esther O'Neal
« on: Monday 17 October 16 23:13 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out about my GG grandfathers family. I have very limited information to start from.

I have a marriage certificate for my GG grandfather Henry Cunningham, 45, born Belfast. He is married in Australia in 1901, I'm not sure how he arrived in Australia or when. His parents are Henry Cunningham, Farmer and his mother is Esther O'Neal.
I have discovered that he is a bit of a shady character, 25 years older than GG grandmother when married and she was 8.5 months pregnant. They divorced after 2 years she apparently discovered him in bed with the maid. I have found him in directories lised as Henry James and also James Henry Cunningham.
Any hints for finding the parents in Belfast or surrounds. Census, church records. Would there be records related to farming??

I have sent Robert Kindred a message through his ancestry tree and I have his genealogy, his children are my mother's cousins. What I am really hoping to obtain are some family photos and some contact with the family.

I am hoping to make contact with the descendants of Robert Kindred and Agnes Watson Nichol.
I would like to find out if they have any family photos of my ancestors. I live in Australia and have no photos of my grandparents or any of their ancestors.
If anyone could contact me with information about living relatives or help in anyway I would appreciate it.

I also are after information about Vickers Armstrong, my Grandfather apparently worked there for many years including thru the war. I think my mother told me that me was an engineer. I would like to find out if he served an apprenticeship there and if they may have records of his service.
Where should I start? I live in Australia, but I am planning on visiting Newcastle next year.

Tipperary / Re: Ben Glissan, born 1850 Sopwell, Uskane parish
« on: Sunday 05 August 12 06:34 BST (UK)  »
I finally got some information back from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, below is the essence of their reply;

"Thank you for your email.  Benjamin John Glissan appears in our register of licentiates on 13th January 1871.  The details recorded are as follows:

·         Age: 21

·         Place of birth: Sopwell Hall

·         Present place of residence: Dublin

·         Where educated: Galway

He first appears in the Medical Register of 1874, listed as residing in Breconshire.  In later editions, however, he is listed at the West Street address you have given below.  Later editions of the Medical Directory also indicate that he gained the qualification of M.D. from Durham University in 1898."

I googled Sopwell Hall and found it in Tipperary, it is an historic home, but there is no mention of Glissan's living there. Would anyone have any further local knowledge of the home or of records for it's inhabitants during the 1850's.
I have also established that his fathers name was Phillip Usher Glissan.
I look forward to your replies.

Australia / Re: William GREEN
« on: Friday 20 April 12 07:13 BST (UK)  »
I have just got certificates with further information about William Green.
On Mary Anns marriage certificate, dated 18 Jun 1868, her father William is listed as a publican  and they are residing at Tooloor (central western NSW) so I will try to follow up with publican records.
I also have Mary Anns Death Certificate, dated 8 Oct 1914, on this her fathers occupation is listed as Labourer. It doesn't say if he is alive or not.
I hope that publican registrations have a lot more information and that I can find his.

I got the information from both the Goulburn Library, they have the Herald on Microfilm, and also some assistance from the Yass Family History Society. I also have some further information about Emma's parents and there background. They were mining for gold in the Tumut area, but then you probably already know that. They emigrated to Australia in the early 1840's and originally came from Shropshire.

I look forward to your reply, also if he was a leaseholder could he have been an ex-convict or were ex-convicts not entitled to lease land. I presume the land was leased from the government (crown land).

I have had a quick look at SRO indexes for CSLand (they only start after WWI) and Depasturing Licences (they appear to go no later than 1851), so I have a big gap in the time period that I need to find my William Green.

Where would I find details of the lease, I haven't looked for these before, also what should I expect to find on the lease papers.
