Cornwall / Re: I would love to hear from anyone tracing the name TREZISE

Hi,
My grandfather, John Baker, was a cousin of Rowlands Trezise Baker. John had a butcher's shop on Longmoor Lane, Aintree. You are right about the Rowland & Trezise names they are very helpful for sorting out several of the family lines.
I'll send you a personal message with my email address & you can get in touch with me if you want to swop information.

On FreeBMD the record for William Porter is transcribed as page 513 and the record for Caroline Makepeace is transcribed as page 515. I think one of the page numbers has been wrongly transcribed. It is probably the page 515 as each page only has 8 entries, whereas FreeBMD shows 9 entries for this page.
Hope this helps.

Lancashire / Re: Reece's Cafe/Restaurant/Bakers/Dairy
« on: Thursday 03 February 11 20:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I have a bit of information about the Reece family. Reece's Dairy was started by Samuel Reece , who lived in Wallasey. Samuel married Jane Youd in Liverpool in 1868. In 1901 he lives in Mill Lane, Poulton and his occupation is milk contractor. By 1911 he has died and his widow Jane lives in Highfield House, Mill Lane. Samuel and Jane had 8 children, all alive in 1911, at least two carried on the family business.
Frederick Arthur Reece describes himself as dairyman & managing director. He married Mabel Drinkwater and has 3 children Elfida, Arthur & Audrey. Samuel Hargreaves Reece describes himself as dairyman and cafe proprieter. He married Leonie Burkinshaw and has 2 children Enid & Leonie. Another son who is alive in 1911 is Arthur Youd Reece, who is a cotton salesman living in Moreton. He has one child Charles.
Hope this helps,
Paul

I knew about Eric on the CWGC site, he is the great grandson of Henry Baker & Elizabeth Trezise, but I haven't heard of the Town Hall Roll of Honour. What does it consist of and how does one view it?

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I think maybe I'll save my money at the moment and keep using the library fiche reader.

Technical Help / Viewing Microfiche
« on: Saturday 27 February 10 17:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Does anyone know of an easy way of viewing microfiche on a computer? I have just seen a USB digital microscope, with a magnification of 200x, advertised. Would this do?
Regards,
Paul

Hi,
I've just discovered this thread.
Elizabeth Trezise & Henry Baker are my 3x great grandparents. They were both born in Cornwall but moved to Bristol were they married at St Michael's Church in 1810. They moved to Liverpool around 1825. They had at least 11 children, 6 born in Bristol and 5 born in Liverpool.
If anyone wants more information please get in touch.

Regards,
Paul

Flintshire Lookup Requests / Re: SMALLEY in Mold or Hawarden

Thanks Peter & Jo.

I never thought to look in Cheshire, although Neston is only on the other side of the Dee estury. You can probably see it from Holywell.

Hi Jo,

Thanks for your reply.

I know quite a lot about John Smalley & his relationship with Richard Arkwright. He was born in Blackburn and lived in Preston. He helped Arkwright start up his famous cotton mill at Cromford in Derbyshire. They eventually fell out and John Smalley set up the Holywell mills in competition.

He had three sons, Christopher, William & John. They all started various businesses in Flintshire, mainly around Holywell. Christopher was an owner of the Doulas Smalley Bank in Mold, which went bankrupt sometime in the 1820s. John lived in Hawarden and died there in 1843, I found him in the 1841 census.
It is John's family I am interested in. I know he married Sarah Williamson, but have been unable to find out where or when. I am hoping it was in Hawarden.
Also I am interested in any baptisms or burials there.
