Hi! Timeline: late 1700s - today :)

I've been in touch with SABA and also with several other INDIAN descendants in Australia, England, Germany, and some in the US. I'd be happy to compare notes with you.

United States of America / Re: Philadelphia Holy Cross Cemetery
« on: Thursday 15 April 10 15:04 BST (UK)  »
Does the Holy Cross interment listing give any name other than Anthony Mullen? I see that Catherine Loftus owned it; what I'm looking for is any other clue.

Did someone go to the cemetery to look for the grave? I was there yesterday and hope to head back over the summer. I can look then; the only way to do so is to use what you've provided as this cemetery is HUGE.

In looking over this thread, there is no indication that Anthony died in Philadelphia. He was buried there, but in my experience, it's not uncommon for someone to die in one state or county but be buried in another. You might want to try contacting the state again. Here's what I would do (though I've no done it and don't know if it would work): make a copy of the no record found response, make a note on it that he was BURIED in Delaware County, and ask if they would have a record for transporting the body. They may not look again, but you'll have only lost the cost of a stamp and ruled out a source in the process.

The Philadelphia Free Library is still active and open. They have raised the price on obits, but they continue to do the lookups. It now costs $10 as opposed to 2 or 3, but it's an excellent resource.

The bad news in your search is that you're working in a time frame that's not easily researched as newspapers online stop at mid-1922 in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia City Directory is published less frequently by now, and the vital records are not allowed to be viewed by the public after mid-1915. With no spouse or children to search for, there's little to work with now, but it is still doable, just a bit more challenging. If you have information that you aren't comfortable posting publicly or that is recent, please feel free to send me a PM.

US Lookup Requests / Re: Mary Farrell of Philadelphia?
« on: Wednesday 14 April 10 20:58 BST (UK)  »
Mary C. Timlin was buried 18 Aug 1913 in Holy Cross Cemetery in a plot owned by Thomas Timlin. I took a photo of the grave site so you can see the burial place. The location of the grave is Section 16, Range 1, Lot 7. Buried with her were Thomas F., Cecilia, William, Helen M., William F., and Ellen Farrell. More to come later. It was nice out today, so I opted to visit the cemetery rather than spend time in a library :)

Cumberland Lookup Requests / Re: St Augustine parish register lookup: 1808

I found a film of the parish records beginning with 1892. It is Boyd's Marriage Index that I've used to date. I'll order the film that covers 1808; it is transcribed records, but perhaps there will be more clues. Thanks again for your help!

I'm not able to visit any repositories in England, but I have often used the LDS family history centers. Maybe I'm searching incorrectly? So far, I'm not finding a film of the parish records. I'll try with Northumberland as a search term. Thank you.

Thank you dettori. The problem is that none of the trees online can give a source other than the link you provided. It would appear that this is from a transcription (looking at film details), but what I'd like very much to see is the handwritten entry from the parish register.

US Resources & Offers / Re: Footnote
« on: Monday 12 April 10 23:37 BST (UK)  »
I used this for 2 full years, and I found a great deal of information. There were passport applications and naturalizations that were complete and contained a wealth of information, but the the single greatest find was a Civil War Navy Widow's Pension! 75 pages of information that solved many riddles, and this record was not available any place else. The city directories are helpful, again depending upon the area of interest. What suprised me was the Revolutionary War pension files: through one data base, I'd received on average 8 pages per pension, and I thought they were complete files. They were not. I've found two that are over 50 pages (sorry, don't recall the number). It helps to search before buying to see what's available.

Volume II does not have a George ARMER in the index.
Volume III also does not name him or anyone by the surname ARMER.

Is there anything in particular you are looking for?

You're welcome. That's super that so much information has been received! Photos are especially nice, in my opinion anyway :)
