Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Saward - Slough Bucks
« on: Monday 04 April 05 17:11 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have any information on Thomas Saward born in Slough Bucks in 1866/67. He has been found in 1871,1881,1891 and 1901 censuses and his marriages in 1885 and 1905 have been found, but so far no record of his birth/christening has been found.

Any help with his record of birth and who his father actually was (see below)would be very much appreciated.

In the 1871 census his father's name was shown as John (b c1840) and Thomas was listed as having been born in Islington, but in 1881 his father was given as Cornelius (b c1840- family listed as Sayward) and Thomas was given a birthplace of Slough. Slough is given in 1891 (name spelt Sawall) and 1901.

On his marriage cert in 1885 his father's name was given as Cornelius.

So far no records of birth for Cornelius or John have been positively found- although it is probable that Cornelius was the son of Elijah Saward (b c 1804 in Leigh on Sea). Census records  prior to 1881 relating to Cornelius have also been found which indicate that he was born in 1840/1. It is possible that Thomas's father was a John Cornelius or a Cornelius John.

I desperately need more hard data re Thomas's birth - please can someone help.

Does anyone have any information on William Tiley or his father Thomas in either the 1841 or 1851 censuses?

He was born in Stockwell in 1837 (pre compulsory registration).

On his marriage cert in 1859 his father 's name was shown as Thomas. His mother was either Elizabeth or Sarah.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi Hackstaple

Thanks again - no its me who lost the plot. Mind you Audrey does seem to be able to be able to produce amazing amounts of data in incredibly short periods of time.

Hi Hackstaple

Thanks for John Cornelius Seward. I already had that but I hoped that Tioman would pass on data from Audrey from BVI which may give parents etc.

Hello Tioman

I believe Audrey provided you with details of a John Cornelius Seward b 1842 or 1843 in Bethnal Green and who died in 1895 also in Bethnal Green.

Please could you post these details as there is a possibility he may be  my ggf.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Sprosson

Hi Cougar

I struck lucky - the name does not seem to be that common - and despite the fact it was recorded as Sproston in error in the 1901 census there were not too many names to look at. There are only 78 shown in Ancestry.com under the UK registration records with the majority appearing to fall into no more than three or four families. What is more they do not seem to have moved around the country  therefore it was relatively easy to follow them in the censuses.

No secret just good old fashioned luck.

Hi Cougar & Hackstable.

Since making my original post I have found 17 Sprossons that definitely belong to my family and another 60+ who may have links to those in my family. I have been able to contact one living Sprosson who is just starting out on his family tree.

The data from the 1901 census is helpful and I will use it as I look into the 60+ I still have to follow up.

Thank you for your interest  - any further information will be welcome.
