Researching the prospective link between Thomas Thallan and my Thallon line.

Interesting stuff in that thread. I recently found that the murdered Margaret had an illegitimate son in 1879, hope this wasn't one of the motives of the murder.

Hi Sharon

I'm a Thallon and have recently been trying to find the link between Thomas Thallon (Margaret's Father) and the rest of the Thallon Family from Fife. Unsuccessfuly I might add.

Anyway, One nugget of information I found was that Margaret Thallon had an illegitemate son (John Thallon) in 1879, she is noted on the birth certificate as being a domestic servant. John is listed living with Margaret's brother (Alexander) and sister (Wilhelmina) in West Port, Edinburgh St Cutherbert's in 1881 and in 1891.

This may be another dark secret :o

Midlothian / Trying to find parents of Thomas Thallan (born1825/6)

Hi there.

I'm hitting a familar brick wall when I try to find the birth records of someone born in Scotland before 1855. This particular person is Thomas Thallan (or Thallon) born 1826/27 died 1863.

I'm trying to trace the Thallon/Thallan line back to Fife where I think they all originated but this particular one has given me the slip. He was married to Margaret Wood in 1850 in Cannongate and had 6 children.

If anyones up for a challenge this is a tricky one.

Fife / Looking for parents of James Thallan b 1750's Kennoway?

I'm trying to tack the parents of James Thallan/Thallon who may have been born in Kennoway in the 1750's. I can't find any record of his birth from "Scotland's people"

He had a number of children in Kennoway between 1791 and 1801 with Katherine May (Myles) (Jean, Barbara, Katherine, Andrew & Mary).

I suspect his parents may be George Thallan and Barabra Grindingstone who had two children in Kennoway between 1749 and 1751 (Peter and Robert) but I can't find any proof of this. This would help link a branch of the Thallan/Thallon family in Fife to my own.

The names of their children aren't as I would have expected if you assume the Scottish naming tradition. 1st boy after Henry's father (Henry), 2nd girl after Henry's mother (Agnes) but given they were living in Austrailia those traditions may well have been dispensed with or had maybe gone out of fashion.

Thanks for your help

Fair enough Floozy.

I've had a look at my tree and there is a Henry Thallon born around the same time as your Henry in Scoonie, Fife. Improtantly he's noted in the 1851 census living in Kettle, Fife and working as a draper.

I'm not directly related to Henry but with Thallon being an unusual surname and predominantly originating from Fife I'm quite interested in tracing the different lines even if I'm not directly decended from them.

Henry's Grandfather (Robert Thallon 1751) was my great (x4) grandfather's brother.

Have you any details of Henry and Catherine's children?

Hi Floozy

Do you have any information on where Henry Thallon came from (before Tazmania)? I'm a Thallon and am doing some research on their tree. The majority of my line came from Fife in Scotland and a good number of them emigrated to Australia at some point.  It would be interesting to know if Henry was one of the lost Thallons
