In my ancestry I have an Eliza Doughty (Bn.c1831) married to a Daniel Barnett ( Bn. c 1823) my ggGrandparents, whose line I am currently working on.The census gives her birthplace as Worcester and her mother as Esther Doughty(Bn.c1798)  of Worcestershire, who was with her in Congleton, Cheshire in 1871. Daniel and his son William are boatmen.I know that the name is quite widespreadbut I wondered if any of your ancestry came from Worcester and if there was any connection. I haven't yet chosen which parish to go for. Perhaps you could direct me! Looking forward to hearing from you.

 Hi Linda, I have just read what I typed late last night and realised that I had made a mistake.
Benjamin s/o Benjaminand Elizabeth Fradley born 2.1.1818 at Stone died and was buried on 28.1.1818. I was working from  rough notes I made at the time and I was tired. Sorry.

Hi Linda, I spent a long time on the film of the parish records of Stone which shows that the records were in a poor state when filmed. Apart from some of the scribble( much of it was in a variety of legible scripts)many pages were either bleached out or indecypherable. Working from the most recent to the earliest I recorded the Fradleys as they appeared.Benjamin s/o Ben and Eliz Fradley was born4.11.1838, there were nine other births inccluding Benjamin born 2.1.1818 who had, I believed, died. I found no record of his burial. I have seen in many families the death recorded of one child and later another is given the same name.  Benjamin (who maried Elizabeth) was born the son ofWilliam and Margaret Fradley. I recorded the births of their children as follows-William 10.1.1781 bt 13.1.1781.--Samuel 29.12.1783--Sarah 15.5.1786 bt22.5.1786---Thomas 4.9.1789. bt19.9.1789--John  9.6.1791  bt19.6.1791--Benjamin 8.10.1795 bt13.10.1795--Solomon 26.9.1797 bt 5.11. 1797. I also found a Solomon born 29.1.1800  and no record of death of the first Solomon. If William is working as a boatman the child could have been buried elsewhere, this could also account for the delay between birth and babtism of Benjamin.
I found that William married Margaret Bloor on 1.11.1778. she was christened Peggy on 26.61762 the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Bloor. There were no Margarets recorded. At that time it seemed to be common practice to christen girls with a diminutive form of the name like Polly and Peggy. In the records I noted that there were other Fradleys who were probably cousins and as I said in an earlier note they came from the parishs just north of Stafford. I noted that a William was buried on16.6.1830. Does that help?

Hi Kerry, what a great website you have created! You have my Fradley side( I will give you one or two additions later) My grandmother's side lists the following so far--Barnet, Grange, Brooks, Brereton, Egerton Doughand Palin( The last five from Middlewich records)
Assuming that you are not already aware of it, I would like draw   your attention ( and everyone else) to a  superb book called A Canal People by Sonia Rolt of the photographs of Robert Longden. Taken in the early 1950s a collection of first class photos of working life  mainly around the Coventry and Oxford canals. The people including children belong to families with following names--Collins, Grantham, Berrill, Carter, Humphries, Humphreys, Skinner, Stokes, Bray, Ward, Wilson, Nixon, Monk, Hone, Taylor, Slater, Newbold, Beechey, Smith, Gibbons, Littlemore, Hanbridge, Lane, Lapworth, Whitlock, Wilson, Tonks, Beauchamp, Griffiths, Peasland, Harrison, McDonald, Anderson, Rogers, Jackson, Tom Rolt, Best, Merchant, Higgins, Boswell, Rice, Hough and others many of which will still be alive. The boats of Samuel Barlow Coal Co Ltd of Birmingham feature but there are others like Fellows Morton and Clayton and British Waterways. I would consider it a must for everyone interested in the history of families on the canals. It depicts what all our familes did. Published 1997, Paperback 1998 by Sutton Publishing Limited, Phoenix Mill, Thrupp, Gloucester, GL5 2BU. Paperback £12.99.  Contains a list of books from 1878 to 1996 about Canals. I got my copy from Borders but I'm sure it could be bought through any bookshop.  I'll be in touch later, Regards Tony1439

Hi Janet.
 yes you were right about my grand parents Charles and Emma Fradley, being buried at Rode church. There are quite a few buried there and also married there. They were mainly Methodists,though I do have a photo of my great grandfather Ben Fradley with Salvation Army cap. He is buried at Middlewich Cemetery  with his wife Ann and elder son Joshua as you probably know. My Grand father was a Trustee of the Primitive Methodist's Chapel in Thurlwood which was closed but reopened for his funeral in 1962.unfortunately I was doing my National Service in the Far East at the time. His older sister Elizabeth Price donated ( if that is the word) the Font ,your uncle Bill will remember it as he used to sing there as a boy and had a good voice as I recall. I think he will remember me being the only one with this Christian name at that time. I can't scan photos at the moment but you can have a copy if you haven't got one.There is a Portrait of him at my cousin's in Alsager but I haven't got one of Ann.I have a few photosof their children Charles, Rebecca, William, Sarah, Elizabeth and Joshua but not Ben, I'm sorry. If you have and can fill in the blanks I would be grateful for copies!

Hi Janet,
  thanks for the info on Elizabeth Bloor (nee Dix). I haven't started her line yet. From the parish records at Stone I traced half of
Elizabeth Hassall's line but lost her father Joshua due possibly to the poor state of the records or the fact that he came from elsewhere. I have leads but have not done anything on it for ages. I had more success with my grandmother Emma Barnet over the last few months. You g grandfather Thomas was my mother's cousin. We lived across the road from him until I was 17. We new him as uncle Tom
I knew your grandma Edith and her husband Frank, as I was growing up with Bill and Jim. Elizabeth I knew but she was younger. I remember Dru very well and her children Jean and John but lost track when they moved to Scholar Green( I think) Likewise Rhoda and her son Michael when they moved to Nuneaton( again I think that's right). I haven't seen any of them for a very long time. Bill was the last and that must be at least 15 years . I hope they are all well. I will keep in touch. kind regards Tony1439

Hi Ann,
I'm new to this site and have not previously been on any other chat line. I have concentrated more on my ancestry( on paper and as yet incomplete) the history is still in my head( I must write it down!) I see that you are related to the Fradley family. Charles the youngest son of Ben and Ann Fradley was my Grandfather. William, my ggg grandfather married Margaret (babtised Peggy, the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Bloor,( bn/bbt 25.6.1762 at Stone) on 1.11.1778 at Stone. He and the Bloors are not natives of Stone. I traced William to Gayton where he was born to Thomas and Elizabeth Fradley on 16.4.1758. Thomas appeared to be an agricultural labourer as they moved around several adjacent parishes , I found no record of any more Marriages in the films of Parish records available to me at LDS family history library. but the I.G.I. has a record of the marriage of Thomas to Elizabeth Pritchard at Stowe by Chartley on 20.7.1755.I double checked the parish record with negative result. I was beginning to think that they were common law marriages and have now only tenuous links through another Thomas and Elizabeth to Nicholas and Jane and an other Nicholas and Jane whose earliest entry in Gayton was a birth in 1646.I do have more detail but it is likely that you have already researched this. If you have or Know of anyone who has I would be interested to hear if you have had more success with the early marriages. The Bloor name crops up again later linked to my grandmothers family.
