I think Warriston Cemetery opened in the mid 1840's and Warriston crematorium about 1930. These two places are not far from Comely Bank. Either of these places may have an office although they do belong to the Edinburgh city council.   :)

Hi again all.  I can't believe I have had so much information so quickly.  There are just a couple of things I'm stumped with.  ???                                  Aulus,   Herbert and Lilian never divorced.  Herbert died about 1945 and Lilian married Walter Taylor (Herbert's Brother)  maybe 1 year or 2 years later.  So a Lilian and Walter marriage would have to be 1945/46/47.  Sorry.  :(
Tati,  What makes you think (In the 1871 census you say.)  John and William belong to unmarried daughter  Ruth?  Not that I,m ashamed to have illegitimacy in my family.  :o honest  ;D  How did you work it out?  My head is birlin with all these names and dates.  :)  Kindest Regards All.  :)

Thanks everyone for being so helpful. :)  There is a lot of information for me to digest.  I'll have another look in the attic  to see if I can come up with anything more.  :)

Lancashire / James Isles Taylor, Herbert, Lilian Woods, Wigan Sheffield.

I am in Edinburgh and a real novice to genealogy.  I am having massive trouble getting very far at all with my English ancestors. :( My father was John Lysaught Taylor, his father was Herbert Taylor born 1895? Died in the early 1940's. Herbert's father was James Isles Taylor, don't know when he died but know he is buried in Downall Green Cemetery in Wigan.  My father (John) Mother was Lilian Wood or Woods born about 1895?  When Herbert died, she married his brother Walter. Lilian died in the late 1940's?  Any information at all would be wonderful.  :)
