Dublin / Masonic School Dublin
« on: Monday 18 April 11 16:21 BST (UK)  »
In the 1901 census my great-uncle is a pupil at Roebuck Masonic School Dundrum, Dublin. I've been trying to find out some information about the school online but various sites mention Richview, Clonskeagh, Dublin. Are they one and the same place?  If so, does anyone know where I could access the records of the school ?

In 1911 my G-Uncle is a teacher at The Tate School In Wexford, owned by Charles Bain who had been a teacher at the Roebuck Masonic School in 1901. Again I have no other information other than the building, I think, is now part of UCD.

World War One / Soldier death record WW1
« on: Saturday 24 July 10 22:45 BST (UK)  »
I'm researching my Gr. Uncle Hugh Henry Maguire b.1870 in Co.Down. When he got married in Lurgan for the second time ,24.4.1916 he was a soldier and gave his address as Londonderry. By 1921 his wife had emigrated, alone, to New Zealand so I thought that Hugh may have died  in the intervening years. I haven't found any record of him on the military records on Ancestry.  Can anyone tell me if a soldier died 'at home' would his death be recorded at a local register office? If he died in the field of battle where would his death be registered?

Lanarkshire / Re: McKissock
« on: Wednesday 19 May 10 17:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi Salfordlass. James McKissock(ironwork labourer),age 23, of 70 Cornwall St Glasgow married Emma(Emily) Warke, age 18, of 84 Cornwall St on 7th Sept 1923. Emma was the daughter of my Great-Aunt Margaret Murray(1875-1929) and her husband John Warke(1873-1939). They were married in
N.Ireland in 1896. In the 1901 census they were living in Glasgow with their first daughter Charlotte.

James's father was also called James(1878-1930) and he married Janet Hart on 3rd August 1900 in Kelvin Glasgow. James was a dock labourer, aged 23. Janet was 24. Both were living at 360 Paisley Road Glasgow at the time. James's father was Thomas McKissock,a baker by profession, and his mother was Janet Stewart, Janet Hart's parents were Alexander Hart,a coalminer, and Jane Arbuckle.

I've been using ScotlandsPeople to research the families but with few images to view it has been difficult to work out which McKissocks belong to James and Emma. I found John Warke McKissock b.1924 d.1928 and William Russell b.1930 who lived for only a few days(He was named after one of the witnesses at their wedding.)There are other possible names such as Elizabeth Hart, Samuel Warke,Emily or Edward Brown but I haven't been able to verify those yet.  I can now add Annie Magilton to the list. Thank you!

Thank you Aghadowey for your suggestions.  I've just had a quick look at the War Graves site but can't see his name there. I'll look up the Family search site this evening,

Thanks again for your help.

Armagh / Hugh Henry Maguire -death record
« on: Friday 22 January 10 12:05 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find out when Hugh Henry Maguire died.  He was born 28.4.1870 . His father was William Henry Maguire and his mother was Elizabeth McCormack.  In 1891 he married Helen Mary Ferguson and they had three children, George b.11.4.1892, Elizabeth b.17.7.1894 and Sarah .14.2.1901.  In the 1911 census H.H., now a widower, was living at 19 Brown's Court Lurgan.  He was a damask weaver.  In 1916 he married Susan Murray b.25 12 1886 and gave his address as Londonderry and his occupation as a soldier.  In 1921 Susan emigrated to New Zealand, having worked for a time in a hospital in Manchester.  Hugh Henry did not accompany her so I thought he may have died during the War though I have no evidence to prove this.  I have searched the military records on Ancestry but have not found any record of Hugh.
I have found a marriage record for Elizabeth but not for George or Sarah.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

hi Monica,

I think I might do that!  I'll take a look on the site you suggested first and see if that throws up any new information.  Margarets death has to be recorded somewhere!  Thanks again for your help.

Hi MonicaLesl,

Thank you for double - checking the death records for me.  Looks like I'll have to do a search in N.Ireland after all.  Hope you can do that without an exact date!
